Got in a car accident tonight. Just back from the hospital.

The x-rays show my foot's fine, just sprained. My car ... didn't look good.

I've resisted getting a cell phone. Really, you don't need one for emergencies because everyone has a cell phone.

But as I sat in that hospital bed, bored out of my scull, I thought of all the things I could be doing with one of those nifty smart phones. I could be checking my email. Looking at Yuletide prompts to start writing Treats. I could complaining to my friends about how bored I was, waking people in the middle of the night.

As it was, I contented myself with mantras and playing with the hand sanitizer.

I was reduced to playing with hand sanitizer.

ugh ugh ugh! Tomorrow (today) is going to feel terrible, too, as all the other pains hit you.

I'm really glad nothing more was hurt. Cell phones, yes, they're a really good thing on balance.

Have some kitties.

Ah! because I've been in a few car accidents.

When you're in a car crash (or other huge shock of serious danger) your body punches the SERIOUS RED ALERT button, which among other things gives you a MASSIVE shot of endorphins. That's how people can do things like run on a broken leg, and why people have to be checked over after an accident -- you won't feel any pain right away, your body is in RUN NOW HURT LATER mode.

But the next day, whoo-boy. Everything you wrenched or tensed at the time will tell you about it.

I actually found this out about 20 years ago. I was having a horrible backache, just crippling pain, but I had to run a short errand. I drove around a corner and the whole road turned out to be a sheet of ice. Isaac Newton took the wheel and I collided with another car. Fortunately neither of us were going fast and everyone was strapped in properly, because I had one small child with me and the other driver had two. I *love* child safety seats.

Anyway, the vehicles were damaged but the people basically weren't -- and when I got out of the car my backache was gone, *poof*. I still hurt all over the next day, but not in the back.

Car crashes suck. So do ER visits. But I'm really glad you're (mostly) okay. I hope your car pulls through.

Oh no! I've been there -- it sucks.

For what they're worth, I'm sending good vibes your way.

I think I'd rather wibble about you being in the hospital overnight! Are you sure you're okay? How about your car??

What, they didn't even have magazines? Second-rate hospital!

Glad you're okay, bummer about the car.

So glad to hear you are okay. I resisted cell phones for years, but once I got one, I became one of those people who couldn't understand how I survived without it. Useful, and the boredom thing while waiting ... yes.

I'm glad you're okay. And yeah, you might want to get a smartphone. Or a tablet/e-reader.

*hugs* I'm glad you're okay.

Yeah, I have a smartphone and I rarely use it for actual calling (or even texting people!). I mostly use it for the apps like email checking or Yelp, or the internet browser. Sometimes, since it sucks to type on the thing, I even write on it.

My daughter & her college roommate used to refer to those hand sanitizer dispensers as "fire dispensers". You just have to be quick & light the stuff before it hits the ground, apparently. So there is entertainment value to be had....

I'm glad you weren't much hurt! Good thoughts & best wishes for a speedy recovery, and that the car situation isn't as bad as it seems.
