icarus: (Out Of Bounds 2)
Out Of Bounds has been updated with scenes that appeared in the original WIP that I'd cut from the complete file.

Enjoy.

Hi Out Of Bounds fans. I have a favor to ask.

Do any of you have the soundtrack to Out Of Bounds?

My ex kept, along with my computer and external drive, all my music. Sigh. And I'd really like to listen to it if at all possible.

Thank you.

Links to the soundtrack -- yes, all of it, though in pieces -- under cut. )

Thank you to [personal profile] bramble_rose and [personal profile] mecurtin and [personal profile] rabidfan and [personal profile] skinscript and everyone for the links.

Now a serious update, nine pages in my version of Word -- the actual Nationals competition begins.

An Out Of Bounds nibble. Just to keep the momentum going and not tease you with "almost there!" updates.

I now metaphorically collapse on the floor, face up, panting. One hand drops to the side.

Just finished the first draft of the entire short program competition of Out Of Bounds.

Also, on behalf of [livejournal.com profile] troyswann I added a reference to Marlowe and Shakespeare. Because she was bored, and this is fandom after all. We're allowed to be weird.

I promise not to run Out Of Bounds through a shredder and set it on fire.

The state of the fic:

Out Of Bounds: just finished and added changes to John's short program.

Now writing the choreography of his long.

This is tough, but interesting. I have the theme and some of the general moves. Now I need to draw a map of the arena and diagram John's program.
icarus: (Out Of Bounds 2)
First draft of John's short program done and sent to the betas.

Doing a re-read of Nationals to gear up for writing his long program, making little adjustments here and there.

Summary: Bracken crackled underfoot as John created his own shortcut through a dead flowerbed – then he caught sight of the massive lake stretching the horizon. Wind brushed his bangs aside.

This is a rewritten section with two new scenes. Some of it may seem familiar, but keep reading. :D Explanation in the A/N.

A/N: By way of explanation, [livejournal.com profile] roaringmice (my skating consultant) didn't have time to look over my last part before I posted (translation: Icarus jumped the gun). I should have waited for her. Turns out that skaters aren't given their skate order: they draw their own placement. This forced a rewrite. Thank you to my tireless betas, [livejournal.com profile] rabidfan and [livejournal.com profile] roaringmice, as well as [livejournal.com profile] tingler and [livejournal.com profile] mariamme.

Eeee! The men's World Championship is on in five minutes!

Wrote the warm-up to John's short program for Out Of Bounds. Now I need to write his actual short program (or this other scene that's prodding at me). I'm wondering if I should include more of the other skaters or just focus primarily on John's performance.

Any experienced fic writers out there who'd like to do a little hand-holding? I'm dithering and second-guessing myself about these last few scattered scenes like you wouldn't believe. I need someone to tell me, "No, Icarus, that's a bad idea" or "Yes, Icarus, you should write more about the other skaters" and unfortunately my betas are busy right now.

ETA: Okay, this is just bizarre. I wrote a half hour ago that the warm up music is "Born to be Wild." The music being played for Worlds? Guess. Okay, it gets used a lot for figure skating, who knows why.

ETA2: Wow, what a night. What tremendous skating from the last group especially. More tomorrow after it has sunk in.

The state of the fic.

Wrote the final scene of the epilogue last weekend. On Tuesday I wrote another scene that was supposed to be its own separate piece, but it melded with the one before it perfectly.

Last night I started writing John's final skate.

Out Of Bounds is rolling forward again, slowly, like a rusted train, but it's moving.

School holidays have finally begun (shortened somewhat by the fascinating events of late). Next quarter in... six days.

WG informed me yesterday that his limp is getting better. The pain is definitely going down.

Whatever you guys are doing, keep it up, it's working.

He's scheduled to go in for oral surgery next Tuesday (the absessed tooth is related to a bridge he had put in after his teeth got smashed in a car accident years ago -- long story). It would be great if he could be back at work by April 6th. His boss called yesterday. The boats are starting to pile up. WG's willing to postpone that appointment if he has to.

Next on the agenda: writing Out Of Bounds. *g*

WG is now chivvying me out the door to see the Watchmen.

Website update:

Out Of Bounds is now updated on Icarus.Slash.Fiction, all the way up to the most recent chapter posted in LJ here.

This section has been reworked and rewritten. Read this post instead.

Who thought I'd last a week away from LJ, even with midterms? Funny how once I wasn't spamming you guys on LJ I got a lot more writing done. *looks guilty*

Sent a short scene of Out Of Bounds to my betas last night.

Have received a lot of help on the music for my skaters. :D I've decided to put a little more work into John's competitors.

The names and standings of John's competitors at Nationals, because, yes, I am that anal. Now with the music so far. )

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the Warsaw Concerto by Addinsell. Hmm.
icarus: (Out Of Bounds 2)
Working on the music for John's competitors for the long program.

I have John's music for the short and long program (of course). I (probably) have all the necessary competitor's short program music. I have all but one of the needed music for the long program.

I've got most of the music, but I'm looking for a "bouncy" piece (can't have any lyrics) that's 4:30 minutes or longer. I need something with "pep." Could be classical, jazz, flamenco, or rock instrumental.

(I had to delete some practice music because it came out after 1999.)

Any ideas? Thoughts? Those who follow figure skating, anything I could steal from this year's competitions?

Here you are, a larger piece of Out Of Bounds, ~3,000 words. And now maybe I can get caught up on comments. Or, huh, I probably should write, shouldn't I?
