A note on LJ messages.
Hi folks.
I've received a few messages on that (relatively) new private "messages" box in LJ today. Until I figure out how to disable it, I would appreciate people not sending me messages that way.
In fact, henceforth I will not answer them. I've turned off email notifications and I have a good ignore instinct where there's something I don't want to do.
Why, do you ask?
I dislike that box.
It sends me a notification to my email. I open it -- and unlike a comment, there's nothing there. It's like opening an empty present. Hey....
So I'm forced to log in to LJ to pick up that message. At which point I'm grumbling as if I'd been dragged out of the shower to get the door, "This had better damned well be important." Yet I can't not open it because now I'm curious.
Inevitably, my responses are either withering or excessively happy. Frozen-smile happy. With exclamation points happy!!!!
Finally once I've answered that message, the darned thing doesn't go away. I actually have to go in and either manually delete or manually mark the message as "read." *Growl.* It's also sluggish. The equivalent of me standing at the door in a towel with soap in my hair while someone takes their sweet time: "Wait, the package UPS left my door for you is in here somewhere...."
The thing is cumbersome, inefficient, and badly designed. And I note that I didn't sign up for it in the first place.
I have LJ, two Yahoo accounts, my Gmail, my imeem and YouTube accounts, and that's enough for me.
