icarus: Snape by mysterious artist (Shower Scene)

Our next candidate: Aspen!

This is extremely difficult to choose, because [livejournal.com profile] cursescar is prolific, varied, and an excellent writer. Okay, once again, vote for your favourite Aspen story, tell us why, and if you want to slam one story over another, put on your boxing gloves and go to [livejournal.com profile] hpbnfdm_lives. Write-in votes are accepted, and with Aspen I expect a lot of them.

Confection Carnage
Daisychain!Draco
If That Mockingbird Won't Sing

And the write-ins have begun! *knew this would happen*
You're Sixteen, (You're Beautiful, And You're Mine)
Bittersweet
Just A Boy
Quicksilver
Into The Fire
Close Kept

ETA: Even more write-ins. *Icarus gets out the abacus.* This is fun!

You can still vote, but the results are in!

Other votes -
Maya, Amanuensis, Rushlight, Sushi, Anna, Cybele, and Cassandra Claire.

You're trying to make me choose between Mockingbird and Daisychain!Draco. Seriously?

Ahem. Although, of course, I've never, ever, ever, ever, ever read them.

Okay, my vote goes to Daisychain!Draco. Because oooooooooooooh.

[identity profile] lazy-daze.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, has to be Daisychain!Draco. Because it is so, so wrong yet so so good. One of my favourite PWPs.

ditto - and the dress, precious.

not quite a bunnysuit...but still much with the joy

Mockingbird. GAh. I remember reading that story the first time and feeling so dirty... in both a good and a bad way. Then I got to the end and realised that I'm not a pervert *cough* and then read it again and again and..

heh.

GAWD I love that fic. Brilliant (the peppermint sucking goes down as one of THE most erotic scenes EVER.)

(sorry, i blew up)

Mockingbird. ::hides head in shame::

Mockingbird.

[identity profile] salixbabylon.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
I have to cast my vote for Daisychain... Something about the images gets me every time.

[identity profile] pxr5.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Confection Carnage, without a doubt. One of the most beautiful H/R stories out there, and just a beautiful piece.

[identity profile] absynthia.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Cursecar? ;) You misspelled their username.

Mockingbird definitely. Because I hated myself every second I was reading it for liking it so much, but yet couldn't stop. So I guess that's a powerful emotion to be eliciting from reading a fic.

[identity profile] lyricalnights.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the roleplaying is def. where it's at for me, so that lets out the nevertheless delicious Confection Carnage.

Under pressure, I say Mockingbird, 'cause oh the "discipline me, professor," but I think I'll go read them both 5 or 6 million more times to be sure. *grin*

I have work to do, here people, I can't be sitting around reading smut. *looks longingly towards links folder*

[identity profile] marksykins.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack. Count me as another person torn between Daisychain and Mockingbird.

I think I liked Mockingbird just a bit better, though. I have a thing for school uniforms; not so much of one for boys in dresses. Mockingbird it is.

[identity profile] blackbanditt.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Agree with the other voters that it's infinitely difficult to choose--although Confection Carnage isn't one of my favorites, I definitely love the other two--but I'd say Mockingbird for the school scenario. And the ending. But the description in both is beyond fabulous. :)

[identity profile] cursescar.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Does my vote count? ;D

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. In fact you get two points for the sheer boldness. :D

Definitely Mockingbird, it's so deliciously wrong.

Write-in vote for her Harry/Cedric fic at hp_rareslash.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Er. Rareslash isn't opening for me right now. (Dial up problems.)

Do you mean Bittersweet (http://papermoon.velveteen.net/bittersweet.html)? The one in the Prefect's bath?

Oh jeez. This is just cruel. Mockingbird is brilliantly played out and characterized, and Daisychain!Draco is in a league of its own, so I am going to have to place my vote on Confection Carnage, just because it is such an...I dunno, experience to read. And I am such a sucker for good H/R. *tips hat to Icarus*

Few authors have the courage to write as well as this 'Aspen' does. But I hear she is a total whack job in real life. She's actually a cloistered catholic nun somewhere in provincial France. Eats babies and lures unwary married men into her forbidden chambers. It's unbelievable who they'll sell computers to these days.

I vote for Daisychain!Draco. It's naughty and smutty and wonderful. ^_^

Though Bittersweet is lovely as well. And Confection Carnage is one of the only Harry/Ron stories that I'll read. And Mockingbird really made me squirm........GAH! I can't pick just one Aspen fic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What are you doing to me!?!

[identity profile] wanderingscribe.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh lord. A write in, because it was one of the first Sirius/Harry fics I ever read over at the PSA and it was so damn hot and wrong that my intelligence flew out the window for a week.

"You're Sixteen(You're beautiful, and You're mine)". Yes...because Sirius should not be a pedophile and yet he is and DAMN good at it.

[identity profile] spare-change.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Daisychain, because it was one of the first H/D fics in fandom, as far as I know, and it set a standard for kink that has STILL NOT BEEN MATCHED.

Any history of Harry Potter slash will have to have Daisychain in its first paragraph, no question.

(But all of Aspen's stories, even the ones she won't show anyone, deserve huge gold stars. She is incredibly talented and one of the very very very best writers around. <3333333333333333333)

[identity profile] bookwoman84.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, I'm new to your journal (found my way here through your website), but my vote has got to go to Mockingbird. In my opinion, any story that finalised for a HP Slash award has got to be good! Plus, even though I've read it lots of times, it's always amazingly good.

Write-in for "Close Kept," the sequel to Bittersweet.

QUICKSILVER.

(this is so weird because i was just last night having a conversation with someone about this fanfic.)

This is the most brilliant H/D aggression fic in the fandom. It is the essential hotness of the pairing compressed into a very intense small space. There is not a word of this fic that is not perfectly chosen, and there is not a move that does not betray emotion. It is the perfect *directed* fic; it uses motion and action to move its plot and betray subtle character nuances and shifts in tension. It feels totally canonical, even though it is completely without setting or backstory. It is the ultimate Harry-and-Draco-locked-in-microcosmic-but-epic-struggle fic that fuels *all* great writing for the H/D pairing. Cassie, I was just telling someone last night, actually, is, I believe, the single best writer of NC-17 fics in the fandom, and I really believe she is at her best in "Quicksilver (http://papermoon.velveteen.net/quicksilver.html)."

AND I HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN TO THE SWORDFIGHTING OMG OMG OMG.

This fic was written for [livejournal.com profile] weatherby for her birthday, and even though I barely knew either Aspen or Miss Breed when it was written, I have always sort of felt like it was written for me as well, because I love it so much, and I have always always felt that if somebody were to write a fic this good for me for my birthday, I would just curl up and die of sheer happiness and gobsmacked-ness, because I would just feel so completely unworthy of it.

I have always wanted to write an H/D swordfighting fic. This fic is the reason I never have, because I really seriously don't think there would be any way to improve upon what Cassie has already done in it. It is just a perfect fic. I'm fairly sure it was on the list of the top ten greatest one shots in the pairing on my mailing list when we did our look back at all the great fanfics last year. Every time I re-read it it leaves me with so much emotion and so much energy-- and all of Aspen's fics do that, but Quicksilver leaves me fairly tingling with it.

I could just go on and on and on about how much I love this fic, and how much I think everyone else should too.

Quicksilver (http://papermoon.velveteen.net/quicksilver.html) Quicksilver (http://papermoon.velveteen.net/quicksilver.html) Quicksilver (http://papermoon.velveteen.net/quicksilver.html)!!!!

VOTE FOR QUICKSILVER (http://papermoon.velveteen.net/quicksilver.html)!!!!! BECAUSE A VOTE FOR QUICKSILVER IS A VOTE FOR FORCED MASTURBATION, BLOODPLAY, AND SHINY PHALLIC SYMBOLS!!!!!!!

MOCKINGBIRD!!!!

I love that fic. The reasons are obvious ;)

I should like to cast my vote for Quicksilver. a) because gah Draco with sword, really to hot to handle. and b) because one of my fics had been compared to it (though Quicksilver is undoubtedly hotter).

[identity profile] thessamunga.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
My loyalties lie with Daisychain!Draco! It never fails to hit the right spot!
