The definition of a BNF

So I've read everyone's comments and am slowly responding as I go. I've distilled the many complexities of a BNF in print, conventions, the history of the term, as well as the differences in the of the term between fandoms.

I've finally arrived at a simplified definition of a BNF:

Politics.

Ah, the game of status... *nods sagely*

Will you be my status partner?

Well, I already have [livejournal.com profile] teluekh as a status partner - but could always consider another one. As long as you don't mind me shrieking and fleeing at the very thought of naked!Ron. :D

By the way, this might be relevant to your other thread, though it doesn't mention the term BNF: an essay by [livejournal.com profile] gwendolyngrace about "inner circles" and fandom politics/status. [link (http://www.livejournal.com/users/gwendolyngrace/1734.html)]

Now that's sounds interesting.

Maybe I'll be of some lesser house and just sit back and watch the greater games, taking trouble only to maintain the status quo.

I think you summed it up perfectly!

and with that, goes knowing ones history in context to the community one participates in. (Does that make sense?

Hmm. Soon as I finisht this Percy Ficathon, Then I will read.

I shall not interfere with the current status partners. After all, I'm not too keen on broom-flights and heights. ;)

Cute.

Meanwhile, I recced another of your fics, and I promise to comment on it at length this afternoon when I have time to devote to a proper review. Thanks!

PLEASE TELL ME THIS WORKS!

Icarus, I sent you an e-mail along the same lines, but considering that my service (or yours, or both) is/are unreliable, I thought that I'd leave you a note on your LJ as well. I hope to holy Hell that this works, or I'll concuss myself banging my head against the computer.

Um.

Here are your files:

http://aeristerra.com/switchknife/fiction/Percy_LuciusChan.doc

http://aeristerra.com/switchknife/fiction/Here%20Again_long.doc

Let me know if you can access them! Because d00d, if this last resort doesn't work, I don't know which well to go and dunk myself in...

EUREKA!

*Falls at your feet.*

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh what an ordeal. I really appreciate your going to such lengths to get these done, especially when you're so busy right now.

Sorry about that last line on Little Boy Blue. I, ah, didn't mean to send the copy that had the first sentence of the next part. *Icarus glances through changes* Yes, I did shift tense in the middle of Here Again. I was trying to force it back to simple past, which is what I prefer for sex scenes because of its directness. I ended up with a mixed bag of tricks here. I'll have to make a decision there.

I have no idea why am I getting LJ comments, but not your emails, but I'm almost certain the problem is at my end. Most likely it's virus related. *nods*

Anyway, thank you again. We'll be seeing this posted as soon as I add your changes. *sighs with happiness* Thank you very much.

Icarus

OH THANK GOD!

*falls all over Icarus, weeping*

Oh, oh. Good. Great. Wonderful. *sighs in contentment* Man, I've been feeling like SUCH an arse, because the first time it was like: 'Did I actually send her the files, or am I just being absent-minded?' And the second time it was like: 'Am I even sane? I could have SWORN I attached those files...' And so on and so forth. I thought I was becoming psychotic. Er. More than usual, that is.

And don't blame your service--maybe my e-mails DO have some sort of virus attached to them, in which case your service would be perfectly justified in throwing them away. That's the only explanation for your getting my LJ comments, anyway...

Gah, computers! Kick them or kiss them...

Well, at least that's over with. Let me know when it's safe for me to remove those files from my server! (I don't want someone stumbling upon them and thinking that they're my stories, when of course the credit belongs to you...)

I still shivered wonderfully at your Lucius, you know. I just wanted him to take Percy away to his castle and do evil, delicious little things to him. Percy's so sweet, and would be so awfully wonderful to manipulate. Um. For Malfoy, that is.

And the Arthur/Percy! Words still fail me. It's... it's. THE fic for this pairing. Every time I read it, I want to go off and write something for this ship, but I know that I'd fail pathetically. *sobs* Gah, Ic. (Am I allowed to call you that? *observes smoking, hexed stumps of fingers* ... Apparently not. :D) But seriously. I feel the need to see MORE of both stories, please, yes, more, more...

Still so very relieved, but no less greedy (and no less psychotic),

-switchknife

Yep, that'll do it. *gryn*
