The best Recs page I've ever encountered

This is wonderful. I read Kai's 'Contemporary Magical Innovations' several months ago while it was still in progress. (Kai, wonderful job on the changes to the Warehouse scene!) It is innovative and a carefully researched and crafted as anything Hermione would write. And funny. And playful. I don't know why, but I really like Ron as a big orange tabby cat.

Then I was pointed by [livejournal.com profile] mctabby to her rec page. Wow. She's got 'Long Road to Damascus', which is what started me in writing Harry Potter fanfiction, the much-overlooked but brilliant 'Lest I Wither'... I plan to read everything she's rec'd. Twice.

Kali's Rec page

Funny note: I was scanning through snapeslash and located a couple of notes. Someone recommended 'Primer' while it was still an unbeta'd a project up on ff.net, last December. It said: 'I bypassed this many times because the summary sucked...' LOL. Okay, okay, I wasn't planning on anyone reading it there in all honesty, I was just posting it to give myself a sense of accomplishment and keep me going. I also bypassed 'The Mirror of Maybe' for the same reason. I find that comforting.

Another note made an observation that 'Primer' was posted everywhere. Which is totally, patently, completely untrue. I've no doubt I've missed at least one archive. Or two. Somewhere.

And it's not at Walking the Plank. Just yet.

Have some praise.

I will give you some praise.and a little criticism.
Unicorn's Blood and Overdue Books were excellent. Inetresting how you were able to show, but not declared, Harry's development of affection and love for Snape while still making him soemwhat conflicted about Ron. Very bitersweet indeed.
Very possesive Snape- feeling Harry up right in front of Ron. But I felt that was a cop out of sorts- having Snape do that, then just erasing Ron's memory of it.
Overall, though- veddy, veddy good.
Have you read Amanuesis stuff, BTW?

Do you have a website for Aman? I read her RS.org sleazy fic (of course, since I prodded her into writing it) 'Waking into Light' and her... oh, damn it, I can't remember the name of the story... it was humour/slash, Draco and Harry had to get married because of infertility curse one of them cast, it was very funny and rather hot. But I don't know where to find her stuff outside of RS.org.

Thank you for your comments on Primer.

Primer as a whole is an experiment in show-don't-tell, and I'm glad it came across. CLS, my Beta, really helped me see what was coming across just through action and words, and what wasn't clear. She had me make a major change to The Unicorn, in Ron's conversation with Harry, that really added a lot to the story.

Cop out... Hmm. Possibly. But so many people were pushing for a big confrontation between Ron and Snape, and it really didn't seem to fit.

The story isn't about Ron vs. Snape, but rather about Harry. Just like Harry had to handle the mess with Snape, and be mature enough to stand up to Dumbledore, Snape and everyone else's expectations and form his own opinion about the Dark Arts, he also had to be the one to handle Ron. If he hadn't... well, it just couldn't happen that way, given who Harry is at this point in the story.

As for Snape, he had his moment of entertainment, but after the Commisceo he was fairly confident of Harry's feelings. He knows that Harry sacrificed his 'vaunted moral standards' for him, and what that implied; even if Harry didn't understand exactly what that spell did. So he considered Ron to be 'Harry's problem' -- deal with it. He's going to watch the way Harry handles Ron though, as that will tell him more about what Harry feels about him for the long term than anything Harry could say. I mean, he isn't planning to do that, Snape doesn't examine himself he just reacts. But Snape long ago learned the lesson of actions speaking louder than words, and it's instinctive for him to test the person he's with.

Besides, he'd promised Dumbledore he wasn't going to sleep with Harry until he'd left school (and knows damn well that Dumbledore didn't mean 'leap into bed the moment he officially ends class'), so Ron catching him at it was, um, potentially problematic.

Thank you. Cross your fingers that I don't hit any snags in writing Snape Manor. I was so thrilled by Cybele's rec that I started fleshing out my diagram today.

Right, I see what you mean.
I hope Snape Manor is as funny as I think it is going to be. Gosh a house simply filled to teh brimwith curs'd objects, all for poor Harry.
Some boyfriend.

Some boyfriend.

Heh. Really.

So far actually it's coming out rather dark and creepy.
