Seeing a lotta gloom and doom on the friendslist...

Hey folks, it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

*nods*

ETA: Ohio is not called yet, for very good reason. The polls that had to remain open late were in the heavily Democratic north. That's where the flood of people were who stood in line for 9 hours to vote. Those are the votes that haven't been counted.

It's similar to Pennsylvania, which leaned Bush as the lower population outer counties were counted, but swung back to Kerry once Philadelphia was counted.

*cheers you on* Ditto. I refuse to give up the last flickering remnants hope until the bitter end. They'll have to shove the final newspaper headlines in my face to pry hope out of my cold, petrified hands.

I'm so glad to see someone else isn't giving up yet - should have know that you of all people wouldn't be quitting!

Come on Ohio, come on, my little beauty!

With you there. I'm being determinedly optimistic. It's my only barrier against the creeping numbness.

*many hugs*

thank you. you have no clue how much i needed that. i hadn't realized PA was going red until philly got counted. i guess i'm just so used to Cali, what with polls closing at 8 PST and at 8:00.20 the state being declared blue. :) so thanks for reminding us that yes, every vote does count and yes, those people have spent hours in line to vote. let's not discount them yet, right?

:)

Right on. Like Edwards just said, this one will be decided tomorrow. :)

I'm in PA, and as far as I know the results were never favoring Bush. On our local news, the first results I saw showed Kerry with 66% and Bush with 33%. His lead actually shrank as the night went on. Thank god he did manage to pull the state.

Not saying that has any impact on how things are going to shake out in Ohio. Just a report from someone on the ground, as it were.

[identity profile] pammi1313.livejournal.com 2004-11-02 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
ah. yeah, i avoided the exit polls and election coverage and bought shoes instead. politics in my divided house isn't fun to talk about/watch, so i avoid it around my dad. thanks though!

[identity profile] multilingualism.livejournal.com 2004-11-02 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* I miss my home state of Cali. :( I was definitely amused by CNN calling Cali Democratic with only 12.5% of the precincts reporting in.

[identity profile] pammi1313.livejournal.com 2004-11-02 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
hey, i offered people a chance to come to cali, home of even pretty liberal republicans! we'll declare our independence once we convince some of the less regular californians that really, they'll love alabama more! the New and Great Republic of California the Great. any takers?

[identity profile] multilingualism.livejournal.com 2004-11-03 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
pretty liberal republicans

Like our pro tem governor, actually, eh? I haven't kept up on Cali politics since I left it for the great Northeast for college, but it sounds like he's doing a passable job so far.

I'm very much in favour of Cali declaring independence. The rest of the nation couldn't get along without us and hell, we're more populous as a state than many European nation-states. We're also better than the rest of the nation (I'm pissed off at 11 states right now about queer rights, and I will be even when I stop being pissed (drunk)). The fragmented nation-state nature of Europe has been working for many years; no reason why it wouldn't for the U.S., really.

Im nervous, and I'm not even American!

I just don't think I can handle any more news items featuring Bush's face on them - it's painful to watch our PM act like his lapdog when he's clearly more intelligent than that.

[identity profile] psycho-llama.livejournal.com 2004-11-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I almost thought you were talking about John Howard.. and then I saw this line he's clearly more intelligent than that and that was that

:P

I am SO proud of Kerry and Edwards for not prematurely conceding. As I write, Bush has *not* (yet?) achieved 270 electoral votes, and this is not a done deal. Let him swear and sweat it out a bit longer. If he thinks that boo hoo, his opponents aren't playing fair by rolling over and showing their tummies, too damn bad.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2004-11-03 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Damned straight. *grim smile*

I hope you are right...

I'm calling in tomorrow...I just can't face work AND him as my president all in one day. I need time to drink or something. I am glad that Kerry isn't giving up yet...although I noticed the Republicans were starting in with requests for him to do it already. But man even if Kerry won we'd still have a Republican controlled House and Senate. What is UP with that?

[identity profile] xavantina.livejournal.com 2004-11-03 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
May I borrow some optimism from you?

As I heard on IM last night

[personal profile] cheshyre 2004-11-03 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
and blogged on [livejournal.com profile] riba_rambles:
I do believe in Kerry. I do. I do.

[identity profile] lerah99.livejournal.com 2004-11-03 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I made a black arm band for my brother last night. He wants to mourn for his nation if Bush wins but didn't have the sewing skills to do it on his own. Personally, I plan on wearing a black hoodie the rest of this year. If Bush wins, I will be wearing it in mourning; If Kerry wins, I will be wearing it in Celebration.

Come on Kerry! Come on....please....pretty please....give us good news Ohio!

[identity profile] alice-and-lain.livejournal.com 2004-11-03 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
I like your optimism, but this is Ohio. I live here. It is very probably going to Bush because people here are very, very proud of their ignorance. My mother has been saying that for years and now I'm thinking of believing it. Ohio is a very bad state to hang your hopes on.

Sorry. Am entirely depressed over this affair. I had more hope last time with Florida than this time with my state.
