Guys, I'm losing long posts because of this read-only problem that's been going on for the last couple weeks, but now has reached critical mass.

Most of the time I can't log in or post.

I'm not getting responses to my comments either.

If I disappear for a bit it's because *rip, strangle, bend, fold, spindle* LiveJournal is just fucking up right now. I have a free account on the Filet Mignon server and that server's all... *dissolves into incoherent swearing*

Now cross your fingers that I can even post this much.

I don't have a shimmering of an idea what Filet Mignon is (unless I see it on a restaurant's menu), but you're not alone with the "read-only" nastiness. Nor with the exasperation.

I'm paranoid, but I have been wondering if this problem is stronger with non-paid accounts? Maybe as a tiny encouragement to get paid accounts?

Filet Mignon is a server name (techies and their odd names...) and it hosts the free accounts. They apparently had a choice between making all users have slow page loads and postings (10 seconds each) or periodically putting the free accounts on read-only.

They insist it's not a plot to make us get paid accounts, but naturally I assume that they didn't want to piss off the paid accounts, so it's not a coincidence either.

Okay, I can kind of understand that the paid account users get better conditions. And since the worst thing I have to endure is clicking "reload" a couple of times, I think I can bear up with the inconvenience.

Of course, should I have to reload 20 times to get this comment posted, I'll probably be throwing understanding over board and start cursing like a drunk sailor.

Do you need a new free server?
I can give you a password to my server. I have a fuckton of space and unlimited bandwidth...
