Does anyone have an mp3 version of Metallica's Battery?

I'm trying to move it into iTunes and both versions I have are bloody useless wma files. Excuse me a moment while I swear at Microsoft and their damned Mac-vendetta that makes them create software that non-Mac-compatible. *kicks*

I'm not able to do

wyomingknott's idea because the only program I have that will burn them is iTunes at work. My Win98 system at home crashes if I try to install any CD-burning software.

I've always gotten around format difficulties with Nero. Burn everything to a cd. Save the tracks in the preferred format. Same thing works with iTunes - just burn those stupid m4a tracks to a disc. Toddle the disc to the pc and rip mp3.

Yeah, it would be nice to not have to jump through hoops, but I've gotten used to it.

What's happening is that the downloaded file started out as a wma file.

The only program I have that will burn CDs (this is at the office where I can't install software) is iTunes.

At home I'm running Win98, which slows to a crawl, sputters then crashes with any current music software -- even if it's supposed to be Win98-compatible. (

ze_dragon game me an older version of WinAmp that works beautifully on Win98, but doesn't burn CDs.)

wma files will not play in iTunes. Microsoft's designed them so iTunes can't even recognise them. I drag it over to iTunes -- and it's spit out, pwang!

So before

djin7's generousity I had a copy of Battery that nothing but Windows Media Player would even open.

I can tell you about Nero. I have the Nero5 Burning Room program which can do almost anything you want with music or video. Converts/burns/backs up yadda yadda. See it here (http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/NERO55.htm).

I just noticed while trying to import some of your wma-files of the soundtrack that iTunes actually converts them to mp3. I got a message if the program should do that and it worked.

I think someone's already pointed you to info about Nero.

Hopefully you've got a long-term solution in place by now. :)

(I've got iTunes on my mac, and that's my cd burner on that computer. So burning cds is generally how I get *any* file over from one to the other)

Actually, I lose all ability to burn CDs when this job ends. None of these programs work on Win98 at home. But when I upgrade to XP... that'll be a different story. (Icarus searches pockets for a spare $100.)

I've got a proper copy of Nero, packaging says it works with win98 (heck, says it works with win95!). Min system requirements: pentium 90, 16mb ram, 12mb hard drive space.

Oh really? Wow. A lot of these programs say they work on Win98 and then don't, but those system requirements are very low.

I hate when that happens. Stupid me not paying attention and not logging in.

You don't even have to burn a physical CD (if you do that?) just burn an image, or ISO or whatever it's called and install a virtual drive (downloadable off the net) so you can "mount image"
The comp thinks there's a CD there, and will happily rip anything off your virtual drive

I do burn the physical cd. But then again, I am always burning mix discs (I do a lot of driving on my job), so it's not like it's something I wouldn't do anyway.

Doing a virtual drive... that would require using my brain!

Ah, I couldn't find and install all that stuff on my lonesome, but when a nice friend/boyfriend has done it, it's very easy to do.

I've got a brother who's a big time tech geek. I know he could set it up for me (he uses some sort of virtual drive thing on his computers). For now, I'll just burn. And burn. And so on. ;)

(Heck, I myself am a tech (robotics, not computer), I'm sure I've got the brainage to do it. But when I'm not at work, I turn the brain off. Saves energy.) ;)
