Fire on the Evening News

I worked late tonight (tying up loose ends at work). On the bus ride home I mentioned it to the guy next to me, and he said, "You were in that building?"

Apparently we were on the evening news. Over and over and over again. He was astounded the building was livable.

Learned from our manager that seven apartments are toast.

Livable? wildernessguru has made our place quite livable. It's sparkling clean, smells a little smoky, but also smells of bacon and hot chocolate... mmmm. Now we're sacked out in front of the TV, commander fuzzhead sleeping in my laptop case.

Everyone is so impressed with wildernessguru's level-headedness and preparedness, and several people I've talked to are now developing their own emergency plans.

*kicks back* Ahhh... hot chocolate. I hope we're on the 11 o'clock news. It would be cool to see.

Um...this is sort of a weird question, but I used to be the house manager of my ancient, firetrap college house, and I'm still trying to get better emergency plans in place. What kind of stuff does WG have?

Thank you. It felt really good in the middle of the chaos to read all the wishes and good luck from people, oddly grounding, as though one's roots didn't need to be in our home but we had security in our larger community.

Thinking of your question I asked WG what was in that bag anyway: he answered with advice on kits in general (http://www.livejournal.com/users/icarusancalion/412207.html).

Turns out he had the emergency stuff for the kitty, but not for us. Ha. That tells you everything you need to know about WG's priorities.

Seriously, the stuff for us just happened to be packed in his custom backpack since he was planning a trip this week.

We're doing all right. I'm still worried about the little that escaped the apartment when the firefighters knocked down the door. Where is he? Is he okay? I'm fairly sure he would be, but I really want to ask the apartment manager.
