Holy cow, blackout

Did you guys hear about the blackout on the East Coast?

Just talked to my mom in Crooklyn- she's 71, and I worry about there being no A/C. I told her to go in her slip and simply soak in the tub.

Power is still not on; fortunately the freezer was packed solid and not open, so food should be a problem. She is uncomfortable, but safe and relatively healthy. She slept just three hours- and could not sleep in the backyard- filled with mosquitoes and humid as heck. My brother had to go to work- he works for teh Sanitation company , and they had to pick up garbage before it rots.
All in all, not bad.

How's it going now? (Where are you anyway?) I emailed my Dad in Toronto, though of course I won't hear from him until his power's back on. I only hope he didn't lose a ton of work.

I'm in eastern Michigan, Novi to be exact. The power came back on recently although much of Detroit is still out. Spooky! You didn't lose anything, did you? I'm not sure where you're from.

Novi? Sure, I know Novi! Mom had a lot of clients there.

Well, I was originally from Union Lake, MI (not far from Pontiac), but currently I'm in Seattle. My dad has responded to emails, so the power in Toronto is back on as well. Congrats on finally being able to see!

Yep, it affected me and I live in Amherstburg, Ontario, about 30 mins from Detroit. Windsor still had no powere by 9:30 tonight, which is when we got ours back. Um, as far as I know, it should be coming back slowly for everyone.

as long as people don't start turning on everything in the house all over again...

Well, when you come from Detroit to Windsor, the next town you hit, going north is Amherstburg. About 10-15 mins from Windsor.

Oh, yeah, there's a whole cluster of smaller towns around Windsor. I mostly know those that are on the train route from Windsor to Toronto. For obvious reasons.

Well, considering that the power keeps going off since all the morons STILL have their AC on, I guess we'll loose it for longer periods from now on.

Mm. Live in Toronto. Got power back this morning at 9 a.m.

Which makes for a total of... 41 hours without electricity. *shrugs*
