Yuletide... do I do it?
There is only one micro fandom where I desperately, desperately want fic.
If C. J. Cherryh's Cyteen trilogy weren't written back in the 80s there so would be a fandom.
The gay is canon, folks Justin admits it. And it has more angst than you can shake a stick at. And non-con and dub-con (with the Justin Warrick/Grant Warrick). Plus there's the quasi-incest, too. And! They're being monitored 24/7 and they know it. Oh, the voyeurism! The unwilling exhibitionism! The crushing politics, and the question of Grant's rights and choices, and the intense relationship between these two where they cling --
-- okay. We've established that I want this micro fandom.
But I'm supposed to make more than one request.
Uhh... Well. Boston Legal deserves a fandom. No show that makes it this easy to slash should be without one. And BL is destined for crackfic.
Then a third option...? I could do some Lackey Herald-Mage stuff, though I'm not excited about it. Vanyel/Tylendel deserve more (highly explicit) time together.
Or else -- this would be fun -- Patricia McKillip's Riddlemaster series. I could easily slash Rood of An with anyone. Naked, drunken, calmly furious riddlemaster, anyone?
Should I do this? I have a plate full of Out Of Bounds, and I've all these SPN stories just sitting there and -- and --
ETA: Oh. It seems there's no Riddlemaster option, nor do we have Mercedes Lackey. Wot? No Lackey? Why on earth not?
ETA, fussing about this some more: Fandoms I would like to read, even if I don't think I could pull it off:
- Thoughtcrimes (Flanigan's character is adorable)
- RPF - SGA (I like how Flanigan is a bit of a bitch. Get a new handle... jeeze, Flan.)
- Patricia A. McKillip - Riddlemaster (I could put this in as my fourth choice and take a chance that a McKillip fan might know the Riddlemaster series)
- Master and Commander - Movie (I still need to read the books, though they come highly recommended, but these two were so slashable)
- Fritz Leiber - Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser (Some classic fantasy)
- Bourne Identity (This I think would be very interesting to slash. The character is so vulnerable and dangerous.)
- First Monday (Again with the adorableness of the Flanigan character, though mostly, I like what a self-righteous, closeted, political, conniving bastard he is.)
- Hitchhiker's Guide (Anyone who can pull it off has my utmost respect.)

It's just that you have no guarantee your assigned writer will write that and not one of your other mandatory prompts. (Of course, my agenda is obvious, as I am not that interested in Yuletide.)

I've got all her stuff.
I even met her at a Con! :D
Cherryh that is

There are certain points where I wondered if the story was going to take that turn. Warrick family pyscho-sexual dynamics are beyond fucked.
What's your idea, if you don't mind me asking?
no subject
As for the idea... I think it's probably pretty obvious.

Hmmm. *wanders off to ponder writing weird John-as-Mazianni-jump-pilot fic for the flashfic challenge*

Whoa. Now that sounds cool. :D

Boston Legal isn't a major fan fiction thing because it's already too self-consciously crackfic already. People generally want to write something that is missing, you know?
If you get Rood of An fiction, I want to know, so very, very much! I'm thinking he'd go really, really well with the guy who sends Raederle the flute, with some stray student, with one (or more) of the Morgol's guard, with some stray fishing person at the bar, with Tristan in ten years' time, with Lyra after the Herun lordling can't quite handle her shellshock....
*Man* I wish McKillip had written more in this world.

Here's SOME of the "rules" -- which include but are NOT LIMITED TO:
No internet fanfiction
All Lackey fanfiction must be published only in an approved fanzine
All Lackey fanfiction requires a RELEASE FORM and a submission of said fanfiction
There's also a whole spiel (somewhere -- can't find it right now but I used to belong to the Australian newsletter so I remember being incredulous of it) about exactly which time frame you're allowed to write in and what alternate reality must be happening, and also original characters ONLY!
Queen's Own Fanfiction Rules (http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qofanfic.htm)
Holy Crap!
The 'official' word...
I did some digging on her offical webpage and found THE answer under the Q&A:
copied from http://mercedeslackey.com/
Q: Please don't flame me for this! My friend and I just created a Hawkbrother fanclub that has our fanfiction on it (our fanfiction is not published anywhere except online). We honestly didn't know that all fanfiction needed a release form until just recently, and we were told that the release form doesn't have anything to do with web fanfiction. So we wanted to know whether you permitted web fanfiction or not and, if so, what sort of legalities we need to go through. Also, we'd like to know if you permit unofficial webrings (my friend and I also began a mini-ring. It's actually just a "Links" page, but we thought we'd give it a fancier name). If you do not permit any of these online activities, my friend and I will prompty shut down the site. We're very sorry for the inconvenience.
A: We don't allow online fanfiction or online games, MUDs, MUCKs or MUSHs; anything else is fine.
And there you have it...

I suspect it's because she's pretty anti-fanfic. I think there have been some Rice-esque instances of fans being told to take stuff down/having legal threats made against them. (I am not sure of this, or at least, not sure what level of discouragement was used; I outgrew Lackey before I discovered internet fandom.) Still, that owuld be my guess -- either that Lackey fans know about the "no fanfic" thing and don't want attention drawn to Yuletide, or else Yuletide knows and is avoiding Lackey's various universes.

He so is! I wanted to take him home and keep him. But I'm still glad we got SGA, instead. "Thoughtcrimes" would have been a difficult premise to keep fresh, I'm thinking. I've read a couple of good TC fanfics, though.
- RPF - SGA (I like how Flanigan is a bit of a bitch. Get a new handle... jeeze, Flan.)
Have you seen the pics of JF at the recent Aussie con? He's wearing this almost-bizarre red-checked-cowboyish shirt and is just insanely hot in it. And there's one where he's leaning over Connor Trineer's shoulder whispering to him that is extremely interesting.
Fritz Leiber - Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser (Some classic fantasy)
Hey, I've read this! It was almost accidental and I'm always surprised to see someone reference it. One of the weirdest books I've ever read, but it was cool, too.
- First Monday (Again with the adorableness of the Flanigan character, though mostly, I like what a self-righteous, closeted, political, conniving bastard he is.)
- Bourne Identity (This I think would be very interesting to slash. The character is so vulnerable and dangerous.)
Vulnerable and dangerous. The best one-two punch of all slashableness. (and, not so coincidentally, describes John Sheppard so well!) I recently read an SG-1 AU with Daniel as the Bourne character and Mitchell in the "girl" role. It wasn't bad. I could try and find it if you like.
Ah, First Monday. I so wanted to like that show--James Garner! Joe Montegna! *Sally Fuckin Fields*! And (unbeknownst to me at the time, but I remember his character) JF! I wanted to like it so much and it was so awful. There are some fanfics that have the Julian character meeting up with DH's character from "Boa Vs. Python" (no, for reals). Come to think of it, I think there are some with DH's character from BvP meeting up with JF's TC character. (What? I only read a couple.)

But if you did McKillip's Riddlemasterverse (not just a drabble), I'd really love you!
I can't nerve myself up to do Yuletide (terrified of what I might be asked to write!), but I scan through the output most carefully each year; there's some really superior stuff.
Go on, be a devil and do some!
