And speaking of plagiarism...

HP readers, all slashers, and all those who care about plagiarism:

Plagiarists must be in season. [livejournal.com profile] venivincere's A Lesson Learned has been plagiarized here.

If you have the time, please drop her plagiarist a line to tell her to take it down. You can create an account at Snarry.net, or send her an email at either sexylilbigurl69666@yahoo.com or mikkisumari@livejournal.com. When I was plagiarized people stepped forward, so hopefully everyone will now as well.

[livejournal.com profile] venvincere has demanded that she take the story down. Instead, the plagiarist added a line saying "oh, by the way, this is by Venivincere and she needs more encouragement." The plagiarist has refused to take the story down so far, and the snarry.net mods have yet to respond. [livejournal.com profile] venvincere has contacted the good people at [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism and she has screencaps of the plagiarised fic.

Thank you for your help.

Well, think of Karen McFaddyon's (sp?) fic. She posted them on the internet once, so of course it's okay to mail them around and post them as zip-files. Nevermind that the author herself has repeatedly asked not to do that.

Apparently, once it's on the internet, everyone owns it. Hey, someone should tell certain US-American factions that the internet is the new communist threat. That'd be fun to watch.

She doesn't want her stories mailed around? Not that I doubt your word; it's just that I'm the maintainer of [livejournal.com profile] stargate_search and people have asked about her fics a few times. If that's what the author wants then I'll make sure that that message is passed on in future requests.

There was a post on [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders a few weeks ago where she explicitly and quite vehemtly asked that her stories not be shared, which included emailing. I can't find it anymore (perhaps it got flamed too much?), but here at least (http://community.livejournal.com/sgastoryfinders/1080273.html) is a mod post that says she doesn't want her stories uploaded.

Sorry I can't deliver a proper link, but I'm certain I do remember that request. Hers is a name you stumble across, and as an author I found the whole thing quite interesting.

Thanks for the link and the info. I'll remember this for future reference.

She doesn't want them uploaded, but she actually says here (http://community.livejournal.com/sgastoryfinders/1066441.html?thread=4598217#t4598217) that she's not really worried about the stories actually being emailed. It's putting them on places like yousendit and other file sharers and posting them she has real issue with.

Yes -- there were a few instances where people put a zip file of her stuff on yousendit. I think the real nail in the coffin was when someone started a lj community for the specific purpose of sharing her stories? (IIRC) And that's when she got really peeved.

They may have. I don't remember that, but I know they were doing the whole putting them on filesharing website things. Considering what happened on snarry.net, I don't put it past anyone to do stupid things.

Thank you for the link. That makes my life easier.

You're welcome.
