And now the cover-up....

Oh, what a surprise. The bogeyman Al Qaeda killed Bhutto. Sure.

Oh, golly, the surgeon was incorrect, the Interior Minister knows that Bhutto wasn't killed by that expert shot that severed her spinal cord. It was, er, shrapnel. And the, uh, force of the bomb blast. Yeah, yeah, that's it.

Oh, gee, it looks like all communications have been cut in Pakistan. No cell phones, no domestic and international flights. From, er, damage to telecommunications. Yeah, yeah, that's right. It has nothing to do with president Musharraf cutting all communication out of Pakistan.

Oh, look, the streets are deserted, shut down for three days of "mourning" for Bhutto. Mourning that has nothing whatsoever to do with a crackdown on her supporters and prevention of the protests that swept across Pakistan yesterday. Oh, of course not.

In the news story I read, they were trying to say that she'd been killed by hitting her head on the sunroof of the car, and that if she'd stayed inside, she would have been fine because "no one else in the car was injured." Um, maybe that was because she was the target who was being shot at.

Yeah, the one I read said she dealt herself a killing blow to the head, just behind the ear, as she ducked down through the sunroof and hit the lever. I'd believe the shrapnel/blast force over that.

Here's what the surgeon said yesterday:

"A doctor on the team that treated her said she had a bullet in the back of the neck that damaged her spinal cord before exiting from the side of her head. Another bullet pierced the back of her shoulder and came out through her chest.

She was given open heart massage, but the main cause of death was damage to her spinal cord, he said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media."

This is a lot more specific than what the Interior Minister gave us, and it is the first report of her autopsy. Now the story is changing. And it's Musharraf's government that's changing the story.

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with you. I completely agree. I was just saying that I'd read that bit from the Interior Minister.

Ah, si. Yes, like how their version makes it her fault, too.

Isn't that fairly common for killers? To figure out a way to blame their victim?

That sounds about as plausible as Marie Antoinette dying from blunt force trauma to the head after she was guillotined.

Um, maybe that was because she was the target who was being shot at.

Really.

If Musharraf weren't a desperately needed ally in the "war on terror" the headlines would read "Crackdown" and "News black out in Pakistan!" and "Bhutto Supportors Suspect Musharraf." Instead, we're just going along for the ride down bullshit lane.

Rumors, lies and cover-ups.

So, in other words, everything is normal in the world of politics. (Come on. Did anyone really EXPECT the politicians to tell the truth? About anything? I mean, they're politicians.

The lies are one thing. Killing off the competition and getting away with it, scott-free? Is a whole other ball game.

From now on, I get my news from you. Only half-kidding.
