"He makes it look magical" and flu report.

Johnny Weir.

Just showed [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru Johnny Weir's exhibition number from the 2007 Cup of China. WG commented: "He makes it look magical."

I love Lysacek, but I have to admit, I think Johnny is more subtle.

Sick update:

The stages of this flu --

Initial 12-24 hours: runny nose, dizziness, inability to concentrate, persistant cough, shortness of breath, gradually worsening into day two with an increased fever.

Day three is the worst. You just curl up under the covers, sheeting with sweat and shivering. WG was in a steaming hot bath and had goose bumps. T-shirts and sheets are soaked like sponges. No appetite, continued shortness of breath, physically weak. WG calls this the "just shoot me" stage.

Day four the fever breaks, some energy returns though you're still sleeping an abnormal amount. Appetite still nonexistent. Occasional shivers. Persistent cough continues. For some reason I have the sore throat from hell and WG doesn't. I blame this on my allergies compounding the flu. WG on the other hand had the headache from hell, which he blames on getting dehydrated.

Day five is as far as we've gone. WG caught this first. He still has the cough, no appetite, and is sleeping in the next room.

Those of you who've dropped by my previous post to tell me how healthy you are, please think about that for a second. You mean well, and you may be agreeing with me, but is that the kindest thing to say to someone who's currently hacking up a lung?

The insensitive jerks who've stopped by to give me a lecture on the flu vaccine ... the only reason I haven't gone on an unfriending spree is because I'm too busy coughing, I'm exhausted from lack of sleep and I know my temper is short. But come a little closer, my pretties, and let me share -- *hack, hacks all over you* -- the joy that is this flu.

{{hugs}} What you've got sounds a lot like what I've had this week, in which case you should be doing better soon. I'm on day six, and I'm starting to feel human again--still tired and sniffly, but not coughing as much and able to concentrate a little, which is a nice improvement. The last few days have been very, very boring. And I started eating a little more yesterday.

And, yeah, I've been drinking a ton of water, and it's helped. I think Wednesday's fever dehydrated me really badly.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Boring. That's a good description. I ran out of things to think about and started doing mantras. I planned a couple chapters of Out Of Bounds though I didn't have the energy to write them down. And I wrote the proposal for a paper of mine in my head which I hope I remember somehow.

It was a long time being useless.

I'm worried about [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru. He's going back to work on Monday, and his job is outdoors in the cold power-washing large ships (among other things). The worst possible conditions. *frets*

Dude, get well soon.

::is glad about internet distances, for ONCE::

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I would not cough on you. :D

Oy, even if you didn't--the buggers are airborne; proximity (and admittedly both a certain saturation and a weak immune system on my part) would be enough.

That said, I'd still bring you soup if you lived close by. Or, knowing me, muffins. & :-)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll cut a kitty door through the door so you can slide the soup through. *chuckles* I've been changing the sheets every couple of days but we're definitely a "red zone" in terms of germs.

[identity profile] lherelenfeline.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Methinks I'm on day two. Thanks for the roadmap, and I hope you feel better.

As for Johnny versus Lysachek, Jonny is an artist, temperamental and not always technically perfect , but a joy to watch.
Lysachek to me is little more than a technically advanced machine with the weight of the US Figure Skating organization behind him just because he's safely hetero normative.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've enjoyed watching Lysacek grow from the gawky, string bean-y kid into a much more mature style. But I think his "hetero-normativeness" is solely a matter of image. He pings my bi-radar.

I'm completely disgusted with the U.S. Figure Skating committee for how they've treated the ever-so-gorgeously-gay Weir, just because Weir is effeminate. I'm pleased to see Weir sweep both the Cup of China and the Russia Cup. If Lysacek beats Weir at the U.S. Nationals, I'll suspect some funny dealings behind the scenes.

[identity profile] crownglass39.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my...Johnny Weir...I just want to hug him a little!

I hope you feel better soon!
*hands you tea*

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Johnny's just beautiful to watch. Magical, yeah, that's exactly the right word.

[identity profile] piplover.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you feel better soon. Have you tried Emergen - C? It's this powder that you mix with water and gives you like, 10,000g of vitamin C. My mom was really sick earlier and tried it and she said felt better by the end of the day.

As for the flu shot, I don't get one. I was forced to get one when I was in the military and every stinking time it made me sick. I haven't had one since I got out and I haven't had the flu, either. Take a multi-vitamin every day, wash your hands for 22 seconds after using a washroom, don't touch the door handles of washrooms, and you can get by without the flu just fine.

Anyway, I know I already said it, but I do hope you feel better soon. Take care.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
We live on that stuff during the winter in particular. This flu has completely overpowered it. [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru has sworn by massive doses of vitamin C for years, and has had the iron constitution to prove it. However, the last couple of years for him, he's gotten sick anyway. Probably due to his work conditions, though I myself blame the exposure to "parents" at Christmas, because "parents" are exposed to "children" who are little bundles of germs. "Parents" are immune to things the CDC has never considered. :)

*hugs* Different flu, but also sick. Thankfully the flu doesn't travel over the nets? 0_0 I hope you get to feeling better soon.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm so sorry. In the interests of lightening the burden through shared suffering, what are your symptoms?

ext_5724: (Default)

[identity profile] nicocoer.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Nausea, Fatigue but inability to sleep for extended periods, low-grade fever, weepy-eyes (Not teary, but weep-y um. . . kinda like puppy eyes when they get sick but with less gunk?), light Sweats, And when I stepped out side, I couldn't tell it was cold out (from the thermometer, it was 23* F?). Some slight disorientation as well.

The only thing I can think of as far as getting it is that one of my sister's friends brought it to the house, which rather sucks. I haven't been out of the house enough since We got back from New York for it to anything else. . .

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's a rather surreal flu....

[identity profile] nicocoer.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I talked to my mother about it. She says it might be related to some joint pain I've been having, so I might have to come up with money to get a couple of blood tests re-run because of things running in the family. Here's to hoping it's just a bug? D:

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Here's to bugs... and not, you know, other things. *clinks glasses with you*

[identity profile] gabilady.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Johnny, black hair, flexible, feminine, tall, pale, beautiful. OMG he's the perfect gay man. Can I be his hag? I'm going right now to see everything there is to see on the WWW about him.

Feel better.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't he, though? There's tons out there about him because he's talkative. A reporter once said that, "Johnny is like a 13-year-old at a slumber party. He talks about everything."

*accepts your well-wishes and adds them to the stack. I figure it's good karma for all.*

[identity profile] gabilady.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen it all. He is beautiful. The Swan, The D-List, his personal page with pics that are sexy as hell.

Why for the love of Pete is he not everywhere?

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
He got creamed by the US Figure Skating association for not being masculine enough for the image of figure skating. Note that the chairman who blasted Weir publicly flamed like no tomorrow.

[identity profile] gabilady.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw that, then listened to the commentary some..jezz, what a jerk. I remember reading a TaylorHanson/Eminem fic from a few years ago and Johnny was Taylor's friend. Did you read that? It was gooooood.

Thanks for giving me a new obsession. I needed a few more ;)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I've never been able to get into RPF or RPS. I need to know the entirety of canon before I write in a fandom (or read in it). In RPS, that's impossible. :)

[identity profile] an-kayoh.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
But come a little closer, my pretties, and let me share -- *hack, hacks all over you* -- the joy that is this flu.

Ohhh, now I get it. Hope the shouting didn't hurt your ears and that you'll feel better soon. :)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Heh. Sorry to confuse you. WG's the one with the headache. I'm the lucky winner with the cheese-grater throat.

And thank you. I felt so terrible yesterday that today, sitting here shivering behind the computer, weak and sweating, by comparison I feel woooonderful -- because I can sit up.

[identity profile] an-kayoh.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ick. I haven't been that sick in years - last time, I remember almost crying with joy when it no longer hurt my eyes to read.

[identity profile] bramble-rose.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Johnny Weir, wow, that slide across the Ice? That was very VERY nice!!!

Hope you guys feel better soon because being sick sucks.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't that slide amazing?

[identity profile] bruinsfan.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Here's hoping the flu departs your house pretty soon and doesn't get its second wind from WG's work conditions on Monday. It might be worth calling a doctor to check about an Amantadine prescription or some other flu drug if he knows he's going to have to be outside in crappy conditions while sick.

I broke down and got a shot this year (I had a checkup scheduled and they were giving them away), and promptly fell into a 15 hour coma as soon as I got home from a quiet work day—no side effects my ass.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I've passed the tip along. WG's scheduled for a PSA test tomorrow afternoon so he'll ask about it.

...and promptly fell into a 15 hour coma as soon as I got home from a quiet work day—no side effects my ass.

Whenever I hear grand promises I start getting very suspicious. Turns out the flu shot doesn't cover every flu out there, just the one (or ones?) the WHO thinks are most likely. This one isn't one of the ones covered by the shot. Which is sort of nice to know.

[livejournal.com profile] winterthunder has some fascinating information on the shots in comments to my previous post.

He really does make it look magical. I love his spins.

I hope you and WG feel better soon. *sends healthy vibes*

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
His spins are so fast, and so natural. He makes so many little subtle adjustments that turn them into "spin sculpture."

[identity profile] enname.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Year I got a shot was the year I was so ridiculously sick with three bouts of flu, that I've decided to save it for old age and when I want to be wiped out.

I am sorry to hear/read that both of you are down for the count with the dread lurgy, and I hope the both of you can make the time to recuperate slowly and avoid any relapses that tend to happen with bad bouts of flu.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This one isn't one covered by the flu shot anyway.

Unfortunately, our recuperation time has come to an end. I start school tomorrow and I have to be there. WG's work gives a maximum three days in a row sick time and that time's up. Any more than that and he'll have to have a note from your doctor. Ain't America grand?

[identity profile] tingler.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, I just went ice skating. Little outdoor rink sponsored by the local ice cream/burger parlor over the holiday season. And the thing is, by my reckoning, all that stuff? Is just absolutely physically (and by that I mean "physics") impossible! It was all I could do to simply skate around the rink a few times without falling down. There was absolutely no spinning or leaping or even going very fast. So, in my world view, it absolutely is magic, because that's the only way any of that stuff happens.

Ice skating is *hard*!!

(Hope you're feeling better soon. Illness sucks!)

I love you for sharing that!

(uh...the video, I mean. Not the sickey germs.)

And I'm very, very sorry you're sick. I got sick twice last term. Twice! And then proceeded to almost fail both my classes due to missing school. I also found out that generic DayQuil has Sudaphedrine in it (which I am allergic to).

The symptoms were very similar to what you have.

Anyway, I send you lots of well wishes and virtual, non-generic DayQuil.

And Sprite. Lots of Sprite.
