Vote for porn!

And now! As if you didn't have reason enough to vote for our LJ Advisory Board --

[livejournal.com profile] xanphibian says: "If you vote for [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy, [livejournal.com profile] rm, or [livejournal.com profile] squeaky19," she will write at least 200 words of comment porn for you.

Cool! I get porn. :>

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a deal and a half. I'm tempted to go over there, but I've already voted so. *g*

[identity profile] auburnnothenna.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
How will she know I did? Or does the order matter? I voted for Squeaky above rm.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Order doesn't matter!

It may be that some [livejournal.com profile] jameth (or non-fandom) supporters will lie to get some free porn, but I doubt it. I figure only fandom people will be interested in fanfiction porn. So the point is to get them to vote in the first place.

[identity profile] auburnnothenna.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really care if I get porn out of it. [livejournal.com profile] jameth seems to have attracted the sort of supporters I'd pay to avoid, which says enough that I went with my old stand-by, vote for someone just to have it count against the candidate you hate.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
He's totally full of shit. I've been talking to him. Wow. Caught him in one lie so far, lots of squirming and dodging. He does have professional political experience, and not in a good way.

[identity profile] auburnnothenna.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I've done my itty bitty part and am now officially ignoring the whole affair.

Though I've got to say - political experience, yeah, that is so not what I want in someone representing my interests. Political experience always translates into that person knowing how to get themselves ahead, never mind the goal they were meant to promote.

Politicians. Pfft.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
You got that right. I thought he was just someone on the opposite side of the fence, but after talking to him, this is a vanity project.

[identity profile] rike-tikki-tavi.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! But now [livejournal.com profile] jameth probably will whine that the fandom candidates are buying votes.

[identity profile] lavvyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I realise that the American way of running election campaigns is vastly different from the German one, and that a lot of people in fandom seem to be taking this Advisory Board election thing intensely personal, not the least because of that [livejournal.com profile] jameth idiot. But this? This is like buying votes, and it makes me even more uncomfortable than the voting-with-sockpuppets-is-okay thing.

Sorry. This isn't motivating at all, and kind of makes me glad I didn't vote for any of those three.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The point is to get fans to vote in the first place. I'm sure if you voted for someone else (besides Jameth) and asked, she'd probably write you some porn. It's the memorial day weekend right now so turn-out from the Americans in fandon has been very sluggish.

Don't tell me you actually believe that "anonymous tip" people are voting with 70 sockpuppet accounts. I have two RPG accounts ([livejournal.com profile] interimminister and [livejournal.com profile] niko_molokov) and I'm only voting with this one. Frankly, RPG characters are obvious. Check it out. It'll be easy for LJ to remove their votes if that happens.

[identity profile] lavvyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Nonono, of course I don't believe that. But I read the comments of the election post and there were at least two people saying that voting with every account you have is perfectly okay, because, "You know, they're separate accounts, duh." Or something like that. I have two accounts that run over different email addresses, so in theory it'd be possible to vote twice. Except I won't do that, but obviously there are people out there who will. Which, yeah. Uncomfortable.

Though I probably overreacted here, and for that I apologise. It's just that this entire election is turning into us-against-them, and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It isn't a good thing.

What's happened over the weekend is the "just for the lulz" candidate, [livejournal.com profile] jameth, was in the lead. He has an election team. A comm devoted to covering his election. Posters (I like the one about cake). Has been stumping for votes for quite some time and talking it up in the LJ IRC chat (I didn't even know there was an LJ IRC chat).

Then fandom woke up to the fact that there was an election and started voting. His lead vanished.

Then he started squawking about "election fraud!" and "sockpuppet accounts!" He's also made veiled accusations against the LJ Abuse team, suggesting they have something to do with his slide in the polls.

I spent a lot of time talking to him yesterday. I wanted him to stop his group from putting flashing icons in an epileptic's journal. He tried one excuse after another but bottom line refused. I got the impression that 1) he's totally full of shit, and 2) he doesn't believe any of his accusations, he'll just do anything to win.

[identity profile] lavvyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've been following several of those links you posted over the last few days. I don't want him to win either, which is why I voted for someone else. He's an asshat, and even if the position on the Advisory Board should turn out to be no more than a cardboard badge, I don't want him to have it.

(I didn't even know we'd reached election stage yet, let alone that there was campaigning. Shows how much attention I pay to LJ. *facepalm*)

That said, I'm voting my conscience, not whomever someone tells me to vote for. :)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
*chuckles* It looks like a cardboard badge to me.

But whoever's elected will be working on the same board as Lawrence Lessig, author of Free Culture, and one of the driving forces of the Creative Commons movement. I don't want someone who'll make us look like total idiots, and I don't want someone who doesn't understand fandom.

If voting for [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy keeps [livejournal.com profile] jameth off that board, then I'll vote for her. If we have a huge surge in fandom votes and that fool's out of the picture, then I'd prefer [livejournal.com profile] rm, my original choice, because she's part of [livejournal.com profile] otw_news.
