The honors proposal is... on paper. Done sounds too final.

The honors proposal is... on paper. Done sounds too final.

It's... not exactly my best effort, but bearing in mind that 20 pages were written within the last 24 hours, that's to be expected.

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] enname who saved my bacon, editing the whole thing and telling me such things that I should have known already. "No. Your question is not the same thing as your thesis statement."

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] ursule, [livejournal.com profile] elfwreck, [livejournal.com profile] wellifnotwisely, and [livejournal.com profile] the_gentleman, who thanks to their knowledge and experience, gave me ways to tackle a thesis proposal despite the fact I was very unhappy with my topic.

And thank you for [livejournal.com profile] nicocoer and [livejournal.com profile] jimpage363 for the good vibes and... tea-scented dreams? (That's rather cool.)

Now, whatever the results, I have done my first thesis proposal.

You pulled it out!! I am so happy for you! ::pets your nose:: You are awesome! \0/

In this case it was their doing, sparking ideas, helping me unpack dense sections.

Whew. I understand thesis proposals are a form of creative torture.

Go you! I'm really impressed that you got it done--it can't have been easy.

All credit goes to [livejournal.com profile] enname and everyone who prodded me and provided beta reading and helpful suggestions at two am the other night. I could not have done it without them.

Congratulations.

Whew. Thank you. And thank everyone who put me in a wheelbarrow and rolled me across the finish line.

[identity profile] ncp.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
yay! you did it! Never having done a thesis proposal, I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help. BUt I'm glad that you were able to pull off something by the end, even if it wasn't what you wanted...

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not so good on the child questions, either. Although if you ever have a question about cats...

[identity profile] ncp.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
They're not so different, really. Want their needs met right away, but expect you to figure out what they want. Use their cuteness as a weapon. Have really bizarre forms of entertainment.

How marvelous to have knowledgeable friends! Congratulations on getting through the initial turmoil.

I swear to god, it's like they poured me into a wheelbarrow and rolled me across the finish line.

I'm tinkering with Out Of Bounds again. But just tinkering.

[identity profile] rabidfan.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Tinker away! Just don't stress. Real life has enough emo for you right now.

[identity profile] twistedrecesses.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
There's not much in the way of encouragement that I could say that you've not already heard before, or that you would really believe, for that matter, but you did finish the proposal. In a very rapid timespan. That at least deserves the woo.

Congrats. :) I hope it goes through well.

Thank you. I hope so, too.

I hate wading in on the academic woes because I more or less bailed out of doing a Masters Thesis and did the research paper out of the absolute refusal to work that damn hard, but I have to say a) congratulations and b) I can't tell you how much I think it sucks that you can't do the topic you want to do.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Right I'm somewhere around exhilarated and relieved that it's done. And one day of sleeping to recover hasn't been enough. *g*

[identity profile] wellifnotwisely.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! That there is a real achievement. It's hard enough to do this when you are absolutely confident and enthused about your topic. I'm hoping that when you get into it, you'll either find some aspect that you think is worthwhile or be able to convince TPTB to let you change the topic because it's ridiculous(!) and/or has been done to death. (Some universities are reasonably flexible about letting thesis students alter their topics as research progresses. It usually requires supervisor approval + a formal written submission justifying the topic change.)

This probably isn't useful to you or, if it is, you're probably aware of it already. Thought I'd link it just in case.

Thank you. Yes, that might be helpful. :D
