Hindi Out Of Bounds scene.

Hindi project completed.

Whew, tired, but happy. (I did a rough translation of a scene from Out Of Bounds, in way over my head and not very good, but it was fun.)

Next week we learn Arabic script. I've always been curious about those incomprehensible squiggles.

WG on hike for five days. Now... bedtime.

*takes kitty with me*

If you learn Arabic, you and Jarlalex ( on my flist) would be able to communicate, and be each others practice partners, I think.

OoB in Hindi? Cool.
Could we set it to Bollywood music, and have dancing?
The boys would look great in swirling silks and lashings of bracelets.
*Hmmm* The artbunneh has just struck! *g*

Oh, Bollywood John. I like it already.

Bravo!

I taught myself Arabic script once as a way to get out of doing the other homework I was supposed to. I can't remember them all now, but it is certainly fun ... I kind of like learning new scripts. Helps with signs and the like when travelling through various and sundry places.

I've always looked at them and wondered, "Okay. That is not an alphabet. That is art."

It's also a wonderful break from grammargrammargrammar.

And after I learn the script, I can say that I've studied both Hindi and Urdu. If worst comes to worst, I can go work for the CIA. :D

That I do believe is the whole point behind the Arabic script - in Islam you are allowed no images of god, and so they turn their writing in the most beautiful (and symbolic) depictions of the word of God. Just kind of handy that it is also gorgeous for everyday hand writing and printing.

Mmm, one day I will even learn the grammar that goes behind the writing but er, that means hard work. Plus it is always good to learn the script, so many people just learn to speak Arabic and not read it because it is 'hard.' Yeh. Try Chinese and then come whinge about hard things to read.

Hee. My resume already looks perfect for ASIO/ASIS (the Australian version of the FBI and CIA), all I need is just one more language and I'd be a shoe in. If you know, I wanted to :P

Sometimes I amuse myself to think how they'd salivate if learned X and Y, and WG decided to go back to school.

"Oh, I'm a translator-historian, specializing in the hottest nuclear hotspot in the world -- you know, the one next door to Afghanistan? Yes, and he's a poli-sci military analyst with a particular focus in tracking arms deals all over the world, alongside new developments in international military hardware. Interested? We come as a set."

Really? What languages do you read and what one do you need?

They might actually hurt themselves from moving so fast. It is either that or they will put a big red tab on you and follow every single bit of research that you do for the rest of your life. I suppose it depends on their funding level.

Hmm, well Latin is one .. which while being a dead language is rather handy for learning any of the Romantic languages, and it does mean that for French all I need is a dictionary to read, and similar for Italian. My Japanese is very rusty but could be fixed up quite fast. As for need, I tend to want all the shiny things, but Arabic would be terribly handy.
