SGA Vegas, no spoilers.

Stargate Atlantis "Vegas" ep.

Wow.

Does anyone know the music in this ep?

I recognized Johnny Cash's cover of "Solitary Man," but the others, wow, kick-ass music. I'm so watching Enemy at the Gate again when it's out in January. The leaked version doesn't have the finished special effects, and this show is a special effects bonanza.

Heh, we just watched it: The Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the Devil" was used, as was (ha!) Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People".

Not bad, eh? But I think Pru already wrote it.

Thank you! Great songs. There's one with red hot guitar licks that I didn't recognize at all....

I'm not putting any spoilers in this post, but was this AU a gift to slashers or what?

Not bad, eh? But I think Pru already wrote it.

Did she? Which one? I've fallen behind on her stuff since she left LJ.

I have no idea which story it is, but Pru's back on LJ now, at least for a while. If you haven't read Drastically Redefining Protocol (http://rageprufrock.livejournal.com/tag/drastically+redefining+protocol) already, I thoroughly recommend it. It's a Merlin WIP and it's awesome.

I'll check it out. I followed a rec to one of her Merlin fics, and I wasn't as into it as her SGA stuff, I can't explain why. It could have been just that story.

At what point/how many minutes in did the hot guitar licks show up? I think both songs I mentioned have hot guitar licks at some point or another so it might be part of one of those two songs I mentioned.

I don't want to get into spoilers, but it had this strong feeling of the style of one of her AUs over the AUs of any other writer. I kept identifying bits and pieces here and there from various stories. It just felt like something she'd write. And hell, yeah, quite a gift to the slashers!

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it was either of those two (I'm familiar with both, though they're those songs where I have a name for them that isn't the actual title of the song). I'll have to watch again to say it in minutes because I'm keeping this post spoiler free.

If the aspect the OP is referring to is John-as-detective, the story is probably "Hindsight" (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/hindsight.php).

Oh, riiiight. Good story.

I loooove this episode! This season, on a whole, has been kind of disappointing for me but oh man, Vegas was like ... a big ol'Christmas gift, hehe.

John ;_;

Your icon. I think that's one of, if not my very favorite, John piece.

Yes, I applaud this episode in so many ways: camera work, sound (both fx and music tracks), dialogue. I liked it enough I imposed it upon a non-SF fan family member (who watches another genre that the ep was clearly modeled on) and it was enjoyed immensely, no matter the SF elements.

I call that a huge win.

The guitar licks ... reminded me a bit of the fabulous guitar throughout the cheesy but very fun John Woo film Broken Arrow, which I was using as my background housecleaning film just last week, ironically. *g*

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the camera work! That too!

[identity profile] seekergeek.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. Wow. Although while I was watching it I was saying to myself, "I've read this fanfic!" and "I've seen this fanvid!".

Enemy at the Gate was really action-packed and a good note for the show to go out on. *sticks fingers in ears and ignores Rodney's last line, LALALALALALA*

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I just rolled my eyes on that last line. It wasn't just the content. It was trite. But that's okay, because the rest of it wasn't.

Vegas is one I want to see again. Fanfiction goes where the writers don't think canon will go. So cool when it does.

I'm just giggly over the fact that, after five years, we finally get to see (a) John listening to Johnny Cash. And OF COURSE Wraith listen to Marilyn Manson. ::flails::
