Battlestar Galactica finale

Now that was a finale.

That is all. My heart breaks that Kara's gone, and had been gone a thousand years. But mathematically it's impossible for the same pattern to repeat indefinitely: yes! I agree.

The word "closure" bugs me on principle, but, damn. I got a lot of it in this, and it was yummy.

Completion. Lee Adama made me the happiest. Kicking back just killed him on New Caprica, so exploration? Right on.

I really, really enjoyed it.

But wait - gone a thousand years? My impression was that she was very real, up to the moment that her Viper crashed.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2009-03-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean from the moment her Viper crashed onward. Her body was a thousand years old so technically, the Kara that came back was a thousand years dead.

Hard to figure time in this case. Better to just refer to points in time, I suppose.

I think that she was "real" since. Just not in the sense of a normal, ordinary real.

Oh! That makes sense. I'd forgotten about that bit.

I just read an interview with RDM that basically confirmed that, which I actually quite like, since I'd been wondering if it was a mass hallucination, that sort of thing.

Either way, she had a hell of a role to play. I just wish i could say that she was definitively happy, not just at peace.

I wonder. I guess that's why they gave her all that happiness with Sam in the middle of the show. They knew what was in store for her.

What? I don't follow this at all.

Why is her body a thousand years old? I don't remember anything about her living previously or a thousand years passing.

You know what? If you want to nickpick about this show, you can. Just not with me. I'm going through too much shit right now to really care all that much.

I'm not trying to nitpick. I'm just confused about what you said. I'm trying to figure out if I just missed some dialogue or if I like really missed something because I wasn't paying attention.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Meh, I'm probably wrong. The body she found back on earth: Earth had been destroyed a thousand years before, ergo I assumed her body was also a thousand years old. This may have more to do my own theories I started spinning back when she found the body.

But again, so much RL shit going, I'm really not caring much about the details. I enjoyed the show and I prefer to just distract myself from my worries.

Awesome. I just got thrown off course by your original comment. I tended to watch the series in bursts and do my best to catch up when I could, so I wouldn't have been surprised if I had missed something.

Good luck on all the RL stuff, btw. Every time I read about it I cringe for you.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, come to think of it, her body wouldn't have been in such great (recognizable) condition if it were a thousand years old. That's ... two or theories down the drain. *g*

RL stuff: it's sort of like the laundry this past month. The pile just keeps getting higher.

[identity profile] bruinsfan.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think Kara just crashed and died on "Earth" the previous year, where everything else had been destroyed by the nuclear war 2,000 years before. Her body still had hair and there was visible dried blood on her dogtags. It was the other stuff that was all ancient. (Though really, after that much time there shouldn't have been even the exposed metal structures and fragments of bone from the former inhabitants that we saw laying around. The only non-fossil signs of human-esque habitation should have been stone structures in arid regions if I'm remembering correctly how fast weathering and oxidation occur...)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Looking back it seems so obviously true. But I grew attached to a theory (Kara was somehow the harbinger of death for Earth) and ignored the holes.

I haven't seen it. I still haven't gotten past midway through second season...

And yet? I'm reading all the spoilers for the finale. Enjoying it, too.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ha. I guess it's a way of being there. :D

[identity profile] wyomingnot.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I've been saying for a while (couple of years, I think) that I'd start watching when it's over. Maybe I'm just trying to decide where it fits in the viewing queue...

(it does have to be watched, only because I've got a vid idea. Gaius-centric. *facepalms*)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I *love* Gaius.

[identity profile] ellasbane.livejournal.com 2009-03-22 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
That was the best tv finale I've ever seen. Yes!

UGH!

Would you like to download a copy of it? I can put it up on Megaupload for you if you like.

I just watched it (my best friend is leaving town tomorrow for good, so I've been spending most of my time these past days having a few last laughs and didn't have time until now...) and wow, was that ever satisfying.

I'm seeing a lot of nitpicking on my friendslist, though... I mostly find it a little funny that I've more or less burned through four seasons, the miniseries, the webisodes and the TV movie in the past month or so (hey, do you reckon this has something to do with why I can't get stuff done on time? *rolls eyes at self*) and I seem to be seeing a lot more cohesion in the Grand Plan or the mytharc or whatever you want to call it than those people. I have no patience for nitpicking, though... mostly, I am totally in love with this show. I want to turn around and watch the whole thing again :D
