I liked Vocal, Breaking Together and Saying No. There's also one there that creeps me the fuck out, What Games We Play. It's supposed to be skeevy, but ew, ew, ick, do not want. It's true horror to me.
The one called 'What Games We Play' with the mind control, noncon. It's rape, it's more than one monstrous person, it's the implication that it will go on, be worse, that no one will ever even realize what they're doing to him. It's the flipside of fantasy. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just that some of my hot buttons are right next to my squick buttons.
And yet, I read sabinelegrande's Beholden last night and was only mildly skeeved. Which is often my reaction to her stories... Does that make me a masochist? ;-)
You know, Beg Me For It was translated into Russian by a very talented writer (and artist). Those who could read both Russian and English said that the English (mine) was painfully stark, that they couldn't read it, but hers was much gentler, more moving.
The starkness of the story was the point.
But even the same story, if told in a different way, can have a completely different effect.
I thought of Beholden because it's another no way to say no scenario, but the context and intent of the person in control while a little questionable in Beholden isn't vicious/cruel in the way the kinkmeme story is. Beholden really is the story of the fantasy come true, the other one is all nightmare.
Uh. ::snortgiggle:: Truth in advertising! It just occurred to me I better not lob any more stones considering the scene in the Big Bang story definitely skirts dubcon/mind control territory. What would the term be for sex with another sentient species? Xenophilia?
It was recc'd everywhere! People raved about this story. I just responded to these reviews with a respectful, "Um. Not my thing." Internally I thought, "!???!ee?"
Xenophilia would be a fetish for sex with another species, wouldn't it?
Absolutely all of the Adam/Jamie Mythbuster fic on the Archive is *excellent*, if you like Mythbusters, and aside from one post-apoc epic, it's all pretty short. (I NEVER read RPF, but... for this I make an exception, apparently.)
I guess I should have been more specific: I was thinking more SGA or SPN fandom.
I watch dS but I haven't gotten fannish about it.
I don't mind self-recs (auto-recs? Ha). Once upon a time I asked to be challenged. I felt I could write any pairing in the HP fandom. I was challenged to write femslash. This was as close as I could get. Femslash has never turned my crank.

Out of morbid curiosity, which one freaks you out and why?

Hawksview in the Harry Potter universe.
And a perfectly lovely Captain America/Iron Man piece: For America by autoschediastic
My absolutely favorite coming-out story of all time, set in the Brokeback Mountain universe: Post Rock by Basingstoke
The only Sector General story I've ever found, and cackly-good: Tape Madness by jmtorres
And, in a more familiar due South context, a very nice Fraser's Moving In story: Moving In by spuffyduds
Enjoy!
