icarus: Snape by mysterious artist (Percy - More!)

Since I'm spamming everyone anyway...

Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] vichka, the only person on my friendslist (besides [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru of course) who knows me in person.

I now have serious doubts about what I write here. ;)

If any of you read Russian, check out her journal. Because I'll be damned if I can read it.

Hey sweetie - hope things going well.

:D

Yeah, things are cool. I've over-loaded my plate, but what else is new? *snickers*

Hm. I'm tempted to friend her just to see if my Russian improves over time. *sniffs*

But for the moment, I think I'll just stick to trying to figure out this godawful translation.

Which she could read in a second. *weeps*

Oh, try it. She's just started her journa. :)

It's tempting, but no. I'd feel a little strange trolling people just cause I can't do my homework.

Hey, I write in English too!!! .....well......sometimes :P

[identity profile] maelwaedd.livejournal.com 2004-04-17 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I noticed that. :) I'll read your journal when I can say more than 'my name is magdellin' in Rusian.

Unless you feel like helping me with my homework, I'm going to slink off and feel embarrassed now. :)

[identity profile] vichka.livejournal.com 2004-04-17 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, what do you need?

[identity profile] maelwaedd.livejournal.com 2004-04-17 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Just for somebody to look over my translation, if that's okay. There's one word that I can't find in the dictionary, and a couple of sentences that seem very strange.

Here (http://www.goth.net/~magdellin/netstuff/text.jpg) is a picture I took of the assignment. I edited it down so that it wouldn't be hard to load, but it still looks pretty clear to me. Here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/miss_magdellin/8590.html) is the journal entry I wrote about it all. My translation's there.

If you wouldn't mind looking over it, I'll write you a drabble, or beta for you or something. *looks hopeful* The two translation questions I have problem with also are these:

How many bedrooms would you find in a typical Moscow flat? I think it's two, but it doesn't seem clear to me.
and
What causes Irina's reservations of Russian cuisine? I think it's because she can't figure out how much everybody will eat, but I just don't know!

I've only been studying this for six weeks, and I've had the flu for about three weeks of that, so I'm horribly behind. Thank you.

Hey! No worries. Most people who read my journal know me in person and are my friends. I actually had the post where I was talking about worrying about what I write, but as a conclusion, I said that I will not change a bit. I started my journal a year ago and then completely destroyed everything I wrote during the breakdown I had last fall. I started over couple of months ago. I will attempt to post in English as much as I can. Thank you for introducing me :) See you in class. Vica.

Oh, I was just teasing you about the English-Russian. I love foreign alphabets. It's like some sort of pretty code. I wish I had time to learn all languages.

My journal is mostly for my writing, and encouraging other people's writing. I'm a big *cough* Harry Potter fan (you might have noticed) and I write a lot of fanfiction.

I was in Rick's creative writing class (I've followed him from class to class all year) and when we reviewed the writing portfolio halfway, I also brought in my three-volume set of 'fanfiction.' 'Fanfiction' is stories written by fans of a particular book or movie, using the characters of that world.

He was just blown away and has really encouraged to me continue writing. He also asked me to give a presentation on writing fanfiction to the class, because he felt it had given me a lot of writing experience and he liked the results. He said "the hardest thing for new writers is to find an audience. This solves that problem."

So. Yeah. Lots of Harry Potter.

I really like the Harry Potter characters and books, but it's also the largest arena for fanfiction writers - there are 14,000 Harry Potter writers on one internet site alone (as opposed to, say.\, 1,500 Lord of the Rings writers). So it's the biggest audience and some of the most creative novel-length stories are being written for the Harry Potter universe.

Right now I have the Percy Fic-a-thon going. 71 writers have challenged each other to write stories about the uptight and snippy Percy Weasley by April 30th (and mine's not done yet - aaaaaaaaaaaugh!). So far 13 are complete. Some are slash stories, some are romance or humour or adventure. There's a really good one called 'With A Whimper' if you're interested.

I should probably explain that 'slash' is homoerotic fiction, but I think I'm falling asleep at my keyboardzzzzzzzzz....

Well, I hope you have a good night. And, how about sending me some of your fan writing? I was just complaining on JJ (in Russian) that I am so stressed and depressed by media reports and books I've been reading (all about war, war, war!!!). I need something to relax my mind and help me enjoy life again. So, PLEASE, any reading for inspiration, good spirit, and positive stimulation will help me at this point.

I've two in mind, both humour:

First Signs of Magic: Hermione Granger (http://www.riddikulus.org/authorLinks/Icarus) Rated PG.
Dr. and Dr. Granger have a perfectly ordinary evening, when something very odd occurs. What do they do? "As a family, they made the decision to panic." Includes vampires, uncomfortable chairs, and singing hospital orderlies. The mystery of lost paperwork is solved. First in the 'First Signs of Magic' series.

Guy Talk (http://www.riddikulus.org/authorLinks/Icarus) Rated R. Warning though, this one's slash.
The Gryffindor dorm is abuzz with laughter and gossip after curfew as the boys cover for their friends' hot date. The talk turns to sex, and Harry gives away a little too much information. "Oh. I've been around," Harry said evasively. Everyone turned towards him. If he was going out with anyone it was news to them. But it would be just like Harry to keep it a secret.
