News Item: [livejournal.com profile] scarah2 let me know that FanLib requests your ff.net password and email to upload stories. I set up an account and checked this out.

It's true.

This is a violation of basic internet security. I don't know the security and bandwidth implications for fanfiction.net.

FanFiction.net has posted the following notice: "May 22nd, 2007 -- The login process has been enhanced to prevent 'bots' from attempting to access your accounts. Please note to never share your email and password combination with anyone."

I got suckered, too. There's a wild rumor that LJ's being pressured to ban users.

LJ's Abuse team laughed their asses off when they heard it.

I feel a little silly. Okay. More than a little silly.

On the other hand, I really should have thought of the NC-17 content on my LJ when Henry Jenkins linked to the summary of the FanLib situation and it was then linked to BBC. There will be a traffic from outside fandom in this LJ in particular. Troll protection if nothing else. Although no doubt most of it was yesterday and now it's old news.

The Wild Rumor: )

P.S. Have a laugh at my expense. I should know better to check these things out.

I sent all the information on FanLib to my father. He says:

I stand by my last assertion: they are stupid and arrogant. And they
should be boiled in oil. Why don't you write an op-ed piece for the New
York Times?

Ah. I like my family.

[livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru is on his third straight week of work, 21 days without a day off.

You heard that right. He's had no weekends, no Saturdays, no Sundays off for three weeks while the yard is slammed.

They think they might get Memorial Day off.

I've taken over all the household stuff except the shopping. I'm getting really worried. He's so tired. When he gets home he barely has energy to eat. I'm going to shove a bowl of spagetti into his hands as soon as he's home so he can eat it on the way to the bed. He's just... a walking zombie. And they're putting in nine-hour days, too.

I mean, it's all at union wages and the overtime is a lot. This summer he'll probably have months off. But it doesn't matter. It's not worth it.

Can you believe that before unions life used to like this for everyone? Only with less money and 12-hour days?
