*scratches head* So it's declare yourself a BNF day, hmm?

So we can declare ourselves a BNF now?

I thought I already did that.

Oh well. Whoops. I guess instead, I'll un-declare myself a BNF.

That's it, I'm not BNF. Nobody reads this journal, nobody gives a damn about these stories, I'm unnoticed, invisible ...

*plink* gone.

Can we declare ourselves other things too? Can I be the Limerick Fairy? Or is that already designated to a guy in Ireland?

I think you are an awesome writer although HP isn't really my thing.

Big Name Fan.

They're usually authors that are fairly popular or are pretty active in the fandom.

Hi, me again! I want you to write for charity! Come on! You've got great stuff and you are exactly what we're searching for! An anthology of all male/male slash stories and artwork to raise money for charity. Check it out: http://www.livejournal.com/users/juxtaposecity/98942.html

Thanks for considering it. :)

Okay, I've got two stories that are strong possibilities, and one's actually done. ;)

The dumbest question ever

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2004-06-26 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
I have a really silly question.

I've sent Tricia a story (hooray! she loved it! *Icarus bounces excitedly*) but now I need to give her a pen name -- what else does one include in these things?

Icarus *blushing fiercely*

Re: The dumbest question ever

[identity profile] jadarene.livejournal.com 2004-06-26 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
What? A pen name? Whatever name you want your work known under. You could probably use your real name if you wanted; I've no idea. Jada Rene is my pen name, as Rene is NOT my real last name. Um, is she asking for a bio? Because that would include a link to your website for updates on your work, a list of pub creds, and any other info you want your fans to have. And of course she loved your story, Icarus, you write incredible pieces! I'm so glad you're participating. Thank you! *hugs*

Oh, it was the other stuff to include I meant. Okay, website it is. Thank you.

The pen name's a bit of a debate. My dad insists that Icarus is established as a brand and therefore I shouldn't deviate from it (which makes me think that I should have thought of this when I started writing fanfic, but, really, I was only going to write the one story... ahem. It just got out of hand).

Others say there's no crossover between fandom and real writing, so go ahead and use a different name. And the debate circles. I'm going to give it to the end of the day, then shut my eyes and decide. :D

One thing I can't do is use my real name. I want to be able to separate writing and RL where I choose, and not have it tangled up in the rest of my life.

Well, I tried to respond to this like six times before I gave up. If you end up with six duplicate responses, you'll know why. LJ has really been screwy lately.

Meanwhile, I hope you've solved your pen name debate. I understand why you wouldn't want your RL and your fic life to collide. Sometimes you're better off without the crazy stalkers pawing through your garbage...

You would retain rights to your pen name; obviously you would still be able to list the work as a pub cred when speaking with agents/publishers. And it almost wouldn't matter because you wouldn't list fandom work to publishers and agents. The anthology on the other hand, being that it has to be your original characters, is something entirely separate from fandom and usable as a pub cred even if you use your fandom name. I'm all for the use of pen names, personally.

I bet you've solved this problem without any help from me, so I'll stop yammering on about it. :)
