Scarred came out of listening to a song right after Beg Me For It and it was so vivid, I had to write it down. It's the most unabashedly romantic story I've ever written.
Then the seeds for Death Eater Rock were mentioned in Scarred. The drunken-ness and dancing. That gave me the idea for DER (since the next Boozefest was coming up anyway, I wanted to write a "drunk-o-logue").
Then as I wrote Death Eater Rock, Stand In The Ruins poured into my notes to tie them all together.
When I was doing the beta for Death Eater Rock, well, I've written about that. isiscolo was right that SNAFU was needed. I'd hinted too much about Ron's plan. :D
SNAFU was pure hell to write, and Hey You was my first attempt. It was supposed to be preamble.
But it became clear that I needed to do more to set up what the Ministry was like, so everyone would cheer when it collapsed. So I knew what they were fighting, and I needed more tension.
Hey You came out of another song (obviously) that I was listening to just for mood music, and it sucked in the lyrics - fwoooP!
I meant for the drabbles to go into Death Eater Rock, but they didn't work. So I planned to put them into Hey You, but the lyrics to the Pink Floyd song were too perfect, and I wondered if I could pull off a songfic. It was so appropriate to Percy that he became the focal point of the story. Also, as I wrote the background for the plan, Percy became more important (badly needed).
Originally the plan was going to be the focus of Hey You. Neville or some other agent of Dumbledore's was going to infiltrate the Ministry. But that would have ruined the claustrophobic atmosphere, so I abandoned that idea.
People read both Beg Me For It and Scarred (early on), and then imagined their own plotline to connect the two, emailing me about their image of what happened. There was one person who was really excited, so I encouraged her to write her ideas -- I told that I would never resent her creativity, and it wasn't stealing. Each story is our own, whatever the inspiration. :D
Some people came to me later to say, "oh, tsk, there's this story that's just like Beg Me For It" without realising that I gave the go ahead.
