Date: 2004-08-31 09:13 am (UTC)It's a good, original idea. You don't want to throw it away on a PWP. As a reader I really wanted to follow the thread of why he does this to himself... I can see him doing this, but why? I think Remus' instincts are dead on, that there's something complicated and strange happening, and I think it would take time, more time than is shown in the story, to draw that out.
Your starting place is right. Remus is the sort to go from intellectual curiosity to attraction -- but we need that ramp up. The readers need to be drawn in with him. You need to step away from the end of your story that you want, and get into their heads. And let them change the story if they like.

Date: 2004-08-31 09:24 am (UTC)That has actually made what I ahve to do clearer - I can end with the PWP, start with what I have, and gearit up in the center.... maybe with a long piece of backstory...
And then if it sucks, I can re-write it..
I LOVE YOU *dribbles*

Possibly biased - but still - ín the position of a voter I'd take an absentee vote if possible - electronic machines can be fucked if some lunatic comes too close with a magnet... no paper trail scares the shit out of me :)

Date: 2004-08-31 11:47 am (UTC)paper votes + electronic tabulation... and then a recount if problems occur. Plus random statistical samlping of aforesaid paper votes.. now THAT would make sense.

Date: 2004-08-31 12:25 pm (UTC)Most people with a genuine case go out of their way to explain exactly what is wrong and how the wrong-doing works. This comes from a motive of wanting to prevent similar issues from occurring. If anything, they tend to overkill on the facts, at worst making the issue difficult to understand.
Conspiracy theorists evade facts and focus on the guilty parties and the ways they use to "cover it up." This comes from a motive of being against certain people, such as the Republican party or certain corporations.
Sometimes the conspiracy theorists are right. But you can't trust their judgement, because they've made up their mind before they hear all the facts. Also, they are so determined to be right, they are selective about what they believe, twists the facts, and consistently take things out of context.
This website focuses on the efforts made to "cover up" problems with the tabulation systems, rather than the facts. So I don't trust their judgement.
