Skyehawke down.

The Skyehawke Archive is down, at least temporarily.

I am probably the last to learn this. The details are here [livejournal.com profile] skyehawke (I think I got that right).

Since [livejournal.com profile] cursive lost some final edited versions of her stories, I thought I'd offer my multiple archives list, since I post, oh, everywhere I can. As I was telling [livejournal.com profile] cursive and [livejournal.com profile] venivincere, and have mentioned to [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 in the past, I consider posting stories to be marketing, and each archive to reach different markets.

The main archives I post/send submissions to:
Fanfiction.net (I load stories pre-Beta here) Don't sneer! This is good initial exposure, a great place to test out new ideas, and fans can cross fandoms easily here. Readers here are willing to try anything.
Fiction Alley You just have to post fics here. It's immense and the backbone of the HP Fanfiction world.
Ink-Stained Fingers (currently down for the same reason as Skyehawke) Been around a long, long time, and a lot of people click my site from there. I'm not sure if [livejournal.com profile] dkwilliams is still running it, but anyway, I like the people there. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] dragon_light, for the corrected address.
Skyehawke Good all-around archive with quality fics, and I really like Tien Ru who first invited me to join.

I send my NC-17 stuff to:
The Restricted Section THE NC-17 archive, with some of the best steamy fic out there. And no, it's not all PWPs.
Adult Fanfiction.net This is a quick and dirty archive which used to get astounding traffic before it went down. It's moved and is a little quieter.

Other big archives:
PSA - The Potter Slash Archive (post fic to the Yahoo Group and hope for the best) I flipped when they wanted to post my stories there.
The Sugar Quill So clean it squeaks. It's hard to get in, they only accept new authors a few times a year, but once you're in, they have damned good betas, and it's a great place for Gen and Het stories. Consistently articulate reviewers, too.
Diagon Alley I'm having technical difficulties right now, but the original form of this site was my intro to all things HP. Accepts only complete stories.

Lesser-known multi-pairing archives:
Borgin & Burkes New Archive! So far Goblet's been great, and there are a lot of authors I like on board.
Noire Sensus A complicated, difficult to navigate archive, but I do have some stories here.
Kilnfiction Another one I've used rarely, but there was a pair of Australian students I corresponded with for a while who could only access this site because of school filters.

Specific pairing sites don't generate many reviews, but they tend to make your stories available for a long, long time. The ones I list reflect many of the pairings I write. If you know others - do tell!

Harry/Snape
Walking The Plank is no longer being updated but fear not, as there is now:
Detention! which houses the entire Walking The Plank archive, plus new stories.

Ron/Hermione
Checkmated Tight little community that is very active. Younger readers with strong opinions about their Ron.

All things Malfoy
Malfoy Manor (post fic to the Yahoo Group and hope for the best) [livejournal.com profile] wickedelf has been swamped lately, but this is good stuff. She has taste.

Harry/Weasley
The Harry/Weasley Archive [livejournal.com profile] honeycakehorse runs this, and I'm not sure where it stands now, but check with her.

Snape/Black
Thin Line [livejournal.com profile] titti is one of the most dedicated archivists out there. Her archives have been updated regularly for years. I believe you can submit or post your stories to the respective Yahoo Groups.

Snape/Weasley
The Snape/Weasley Archive Like I said, [livejournal.com profile] titti is one of the most dedicated archivists out there. Her archives have been updated regularly for years. I believe you can submit or post your stories to the respective Yahoo Groups.

Three Specific Pairings in one archive:
Etc hosts:
After Class - Harry/Snape
Beloved Enemies - Harry/Lucius
Canis Major - Harry/Sirius

Who could forget Bernice's Snape/Hagrid?
Sweet and Sour A shocking oversight on my part.

I've not submitted anything to these three, but I have beta'd for their fest authors.

That'll do for a start. I welcome more archives and more archive suggestions.

Big glaring omission: I know too few pairing-specific LJ communities and would like some input before I post a list that neglects most everyone.

I've a list of Yahoo Groups that I used to post to frequently, but most of them have died or have been replaced by LJ communities. If people are interested, I'll post them as well. The Veela, Inc Yahoo Group is certainly still active.

(Personal interest much?)

*checks it out*

Ooo! Snape/Hagrid. Yes, that one definitely must go up.

You know, I should combine this with my starter kit rec-list, so people can start with a few fics in a pairing, then go direct to the pairing archives.

:D

Sounds like a great idea!

[identity profile] ze-dragon.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
you've the old link for inkstained fingers. it's now at http://inkstain.inkquill.net I think they've left slashcity permanently.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Is that what happened to them? Cool, I'll tell [livejournal.com profile] venivincere where it's wandered off to and fix the link. Thank you.

Any idea why? The reason being is that I have my site currently hosted on slashcity now (though the main page is still the same).

If I am remembering correctly, and I might not be, it was a money issue. For a sight that size they found it easier and cheaper to switch companies. They talked about it on their info journal, [livejournal.com profile] inkstainfingers, I think.

No problem. :)

Pairing-specific LJ communities I know of:

[livejournal.com profile] harry_and_ron
[livejournal.com profile] hprwfqf - The Harry/Ron FQF
[livejournal.com profile] menage_a_trio - H/R/H
[livejournal.com profile] pottersandwich - H/R/H but now pretty much dead
[livejournal.com profile] princeandpauper - R/D
[livejournal.com profile] ron_draco
[livejournal.com profile] rwdmfqf - the Ron/Draco FQF, apparently dead at this point.

Those are just the ones I know of, though; I'm sure there's about a hundred and eight zillion more. (Try looking through the back issues of [livejournal.com profile] daily_snitch or [livejournal.com profile] quickquote for comms mentioned.)

[livejournal.com profile] rwdmfqf - the Ron/Draco FQF, apparently dead at this point.

Not dead, really... It just has one really lazy mod and one really busy mod. I'm the lazy one, and eventually I'll get around to figuring out the dates for the next wave 'cause both [livejournal.com profile] thywillbedone and I would like another wave. We've already talked about it and just need to do it. :D

[personal profile] mad_maudlin 2005-01-09 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you need a second really busy mod, I'd be willing to try--provided I'm at school when it's going down, since my internet connection at home is twitchy at best.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hey Martha, thank you very much. There's a Percy one around somewhere, and then of course there's [livejournal.com profile] weasleyworship. Checking quickquotes and the daily_snitch is a good idea that I'm almost sure I won't have time to do. :D

Nope, still not that brilliant.

Hell. I was mis-reading all sorts of things last night.

Don't sweat it--I get that a lot, for some reason. Comes with having the same first adjective, I guess.

[identity profile] pinkfinity.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the compliment! And yep, I agree that posting in multiple places is always a good idea - I used to be on DA was was bumped when the 'completed' requirement vested, and I'm on a few smaller archives as well. It never hurts...

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Ain't nothin' but the truth, Heidi, ain't nothin' but the truth.

If I were to tell someone "Okay. Post your fics in these four places" it would be Fiction Alley for G-R rated fics, to hit that core HP audience, the Restricted Section for all NC-17 fics, Inkstained Fingers for everything, get the core slash audience, and Fanfiction.net to cast a wide net for new readers who don't know anywhere else to look. ;)

Ideally you'd be able to back that up with Skyehawke.com, so you're putting them in front of other HP writers.

You little so and so, I'm meant to be *reducing* my 'to go back to' bookmarks and you've given me oh, at least 3 more up there!

:-D it's one of [livejournal.com profile] jacklemmon/[livejournal.com profile] delectableoomph's, I used to have loads of hers but I'm in a dueSouth and Sports Night place right now which she doesn't watch.

[identity profile] cedarlibrarian.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for this post! Since I write shipfic as well as gen and have fics that range in rating from G to NC17, I'm mourning Skyehawke because it's the only site where I can post all my fics in one place since FA and FFN won't take NC-17. Most of them I knew about, but a few I didn't.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well Skyehawke's not gone for good. They're just having trouble right now. It's not like the situation with Snitchfiction where the owner started doing site improvements and just... disappeared.

Here's a couple that you didn't mention. Not sure how useful they are because I'm a reader not an author so keep in mind that I have no experience with them other than that.

http://www.sycophanthex.com/ great variety

http://www.witchfics.org/ this may be invite-only

[identity profile] emeraldjay.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Malfoy Manor (http://www.malfoymanor.com/) usually gets fics from the glassesreflect (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/glassesreflect) yahooo group and the dracoron (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dracoron) yahoo group. Then there is the [livejournal.com profile] malfoy_slash community that is also watched. I help [livejournal.com profile] wickedelf from time to time with both Malfoy Manor (http://www.malfoymanor.com/) and [livejournal.com profile] malfoy_slash.

[identity profile] fiatincantatum.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
One you might not know of is The Staff Room (http://www.staff-room.co.uk/), a very small, relatively new archive dedicated to stories about the Hogwarts staff. Het, slash, saffic and gen are all welcome, although I think the owner draws the line at chan.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-01-10 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! No, I didn't know. Thank you!

Quite welcome. I have the ulterior motive, naturally, because one of mine is archved there, too, and more traffic is always a good thing :D
