The Walls of Jericho - 23 (from part 1 here)
by Icarus
Jack was sprawled out and breathing softly when Daniel returned from his watch. But he was a notoriously light sleeper, so Daniel undressed as quietly as he could, rustling gratefully into his down bag with a satisfied sigh.
Then he saw the green glow of Jack's watch as Jack checked the time. Daniel stared up at the tent ceiling. Shit. Jack's eyes were a dark glimmer in the shadows as he turned towards Daniel.
"What do you want, Daniel?" His voice was low and rough.
"What?" But Daniel knew exactly what he meant.
"You keep bringing it up. Why?"
"I told you -- I'm just concerned."
"Concerned."
Daniel swallowed.
"Okay. More than concerned." He licked his lips. "Jesus, Jack -- you had this big part of your life and I had no clue."
"Unh-huh."
"I just want to know what's going on."
"See, that's where I don't get it." Jack's voice raised slightly. He leaned closer on his elbow. "You do know what's going on. You would've dropped it after the first night."
"Oh? So I'm not allowed to be your friend? Not allowed to care? Jack, I would venture a guess that half the problem is you keep everyone at arm's length."
There was a gulf of silence between them. Then a hand touched Daniel's lips. Followed the line of his jaw.
"At… at arm's length. And you can't do that…"
"I know."
Daniel's breathing came heavier, but he was determined to keep going until he got through to Jack…whose hand slowly, carefully, traced his cheekbone. "Then… then don't."
Daniel shut his eyes. Jack closed the gap between them.
"Okay."
Jack's lips, firm and dry, pressed against his for a long, slow moment. Moved softly, melting against his. They parted to breathe.
"Then… good," Daniel ended, not sure what they were talking about any more.
Jack rolled towards him in a rustle of sleeping bags, his chest warm against Daniel's, eyes steady and intense.
"We'll have to be quiet," he said in a low voice.
"Yeah. No shit," Daniel breathed.
Next part (a leetle, teeny tidbit) is up now.
Are we happy now?

Date: 2005-01-18 06:30 am (UTC)I'm still here and, goodness help me, reading outside my fandom because, well, I can't resist your stories... *sigh* Anyway, this was good. Very, very good. *bounce* I love the way you can handle things in such an understated way and it seems to flow so naturally. Heh. Poor Daniel. He was so sure he was winning the argument, but then Jack actually did the practical (hmmm, maybe not so much, but still!) thing and actually did what Daniel was recommending... *grin* I also loved the power bars from the last partlet. Please do finish this.

did someone say "explicitness?"
Date: 2005-01-18 06:58 am (UTC)My vote is for as porny as you wanna be...I'll take anything from well written but sexy inuendo to out and out pr0n - the raunchier the better. But I have to admit I might be a little surprised if this fic went to that extreme. I think that would be a little out of character with the feel of the rest of the fic, but hey...who amy I to judge? (Uh, not that I'd complain or anything, anyway...*g*)
Re: *waving hand*
Date: 2005-01-18 09:31 am (UTC)Yeah, Jack finally clued in to what was going on beneath the surface and beat Daniel to the punch.
He was so sure he was winning the argument, but then Jack actually did the practical (hmmm, maybe not so much, but still!) thing and actually did what Daniel was recommending... *grin*
And broke all of his personal rules. Oh, but he's been sliding throughout this story. Those rules only work when everyone else plays out their specified role.
Funnily enough, there's this instinct in the back of Jack's mind that says this is how to get the situation back in hand. Find the right script for Daniel.

Date: 2005-01-18 12:10 pm (UTC)Wow. This is utterly, completely enthralling. The characters are very, very right, and I love that Sam and Teal'c are present and just as right as Jack and Daniel. The aliens? SO cool. I still want to know more about them, I'm fascinated...
And this last part? *Squee*! Thank you for the huge smile on my face!

Date: 2005-01-18 05:24 pm (UTC)I think I like that even when he's utterly confused, Jack still knows Daniel.
That's exactly right. He knows Daniel's pushed it way beyond his normal level of nosiness/curiosity... even if Daniel doesn't.

Date: 2005-01-18 08:58 pm (UTC)I don't know much of the series (have only seen a few episodes randomly) but I know the movie. Fortunately they show the series again from the start here and amonst other things you can take credit for me beginning to watch it now.
I really like your writing style (as always ;)). Since I've seen so many posts from you regarding this fic I started today at the first post and just couldn't stop reading.
I love the interaction of the team-members, especially Jack and Daniel's bickering.
Your idea of the aliens is simply great - I get just crazy about such stuff like shapeable lava.
And when I remember Jack's behaviour at the village on Abydos in the movie I just can see him in his typical Colonel-maner, having no sure instinct for foreign conventions.
You really made me laugh some times, e.g. when Sam got that shocked expression when she realised that they had gone in underwear.
And yes, I'm happy now. :D

Date: 2005-01-18 09:17 pm (UTC)Perfect. Just utterly perfect. more!
It was just so slow and lovely and it just happened and Daniel is so confused, because he doesn't know why he is so interested in Jack's sexuality, way more interested than he should be, but Jack knows and acts on it and oh god. How can I melt so from a simple kiss?!

Date: 2005-01-19 04:21 am (UTC)I've had other fics where people asked "so where's Teal'c and Sam?" and I've thought "who?"
This is utterly, completely enthralling.
Cool. It was the plot that worried me, since of course the main point was to get Jack and Daniel together. ;)

Jack and Daniel bickering is the best part of the show.

They are based on some actual people I know, whom I'm convinced are aliens. :D

Oh, that's an understatement.
You really made me laugh some times, e.g. when Sam got that shocked expression when she realised that they had gone in underwear.
Yay! Sam is often abused in Jack/Daniel fics.

*lol* I know some of that kind of people myself.
At university we had a prof who had studied mathematics and physics and when there was no place in the cafeteria to sit my fellow students and I started an argument about wormholes, time warp, alien nations and such crazy things. It didn't take long 'til the first table was free for us. *eg*
Oh, that's an understatement.
*lol* Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe a bull in a china shop would be easier to tame...

Looking forward to it. *leers*
