Yesterday a few blocks from my house, an 88-year-old man in a "land yacht" station wagon (you know the type with the fake-wood panelling) plowed into another car on a two-story parking balcony. Both sailed over the edge and smashed to the ground below.

The elderly man has minor injuries.

Get the make and model of that vehicle and buy one today!

"Land yacht" is a new term for me. Good one. Prior to that, my favourite derogatory car term was a "sissy truck" for those station wagons with the hollowed out bed behind the seats. Haven't seen one of those in a long time.

It's like Stephanie Plum says: Even if you crash into another car, doesn't matter where it is, the crash is always at least 3 feet distant... :D

I saw that on the news last night.

I think that it is a Buick Regal 88 station wagon.

*looks for car on net*

I had one. I went to a craft show and lived in the back of that car for 5 days. I was never the same again after that.

Alas, the timing chain fell off it and the motor was damaged. When I took the plates off it, I cried. It was part of the family, like the dog was.

They don't make'em like that any more! Back when I was a teen (in the long-ago 70's), we were in a car accident... It was on an icy road. The car in front of us rear-ended the car in front of them (which slowed down because someone cut them off). We pulled up on someone's lawn to avoid them, but the rear end of the car swung over and hit them anyway--totally smashing in the side of our car. [livejournal.com profile] toolman33 moved our car to the front of the line of cars as we exchanged accident information, and the cop (when he came) parked in front of us. Yet another car came along then and totally smashed into that *same* car and was just totaled--the entire front of the car was smashed in. The car that hit someone else and then was hit twice (thus smashing up three cars) was an old Buick Century--and it sustained no damage! hehe I've always wanted one of those. :-)

While I've got to give buick props, there's nothing like German engineering. I was in an accident in an old (maybe 70's/early 80's) Mercedes once. Jeebus. The little car that broadsided us was totaled, like no-windshield-crazy-accordion-front-end-airbag-smoke totaled. Our car? The door kinda stuck sometimes after that. Those things are built like *tanks*.
