Update on WG's mom.

Great news!

Just heard from [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru's sister. The surgery on his mom went very smoothly and they believe they got 90% of the cancer. The remaining 10% (in the liver) they plan to zap with chemotherapy.

She said, "They think they can fight it back for two years. And if it returns, they'll zap it again."

WG and I are going down to see her as soon as we can, hopefully before the chemo starts so she'll be feeling a little better.

I thanked his sister effusively for keeping us up to date and told her, "I haven't seen [WG] this calm since the building was on fire. Calm and intense, planning for every worst-case scenario."

His sister snickered, "His crisis reaction, eh?"

Yeah. I think I just saw why the California Department of Fire wants him back.

Now he's back to normal, soft and snuggly. And he took a long, peaceful nap.

Thank you, Veni. Man... it's such a relief. Disaster is staved off for the time being.

Thank you so much. (Personally, I think it's from good wishes from those who've been thinking "get better so we can have more fic, more fic--better... more fic--better...")

Congratulations! I really hope the chemo takes, and your WG can come out of crisis mode. Yay for modern medicine. *g*

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2006-04-21 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, me too. For now we're out of crisis mode. And we're so going to go down and visit, screw the costs.

I've been off LJ for a few days - my grandma had surgery on Wednesday (she's fine) - and wanted to send my good thoughts and best wishes for her improvement and many more years with all of you.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2006-04-22 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, I really appreciate it (and I'm glad your grandmother is okay). Yes, we're hoping for at least another four years.

Wow, that is good news. I'm glad things are going about as well as possible, and I hope WG's mom does OK with the chemo.

No lets just hope the chemo gets the rest of the stuff.

WG's a fireman?

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2006-04-22 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. So relieved.

WG's a fireman?

Ex-wildland firefighter. He's the guy they'd send in via chopper to set up the big campaign fires: "Yeah, we need x number of hose-lays, we need to cut line over there, x number men with x amount of food."

Icarus

[identity profile] lherelenfeline.livejournal.com 2006-04-22 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, no wonder he's automatically prepping for the worst case scenario. I'd imagine for him it's instinct.

Exactly!

Hurrah for successful surgery! Having been through this as a child of a parent with cancer, I'm sending you all the good vibes I've got. It's not easy, but y'all seem to have the right idea in being happy about the successful things and keeping engaged and in touch with the family. Good luck to all of you, it's a tough road, but you'll get through.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2006-04-22 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
As she put it, "We have a good cry and then that's done. We spend the rest of the time joking around."

Great people, WG's family.

Thank you, we are, too. We almost don't know what to do with ourselves, life has been so turned upsidedown and yet we're so happy.

yay! phew..
sorry for all these comments all of a sudden. they're not really in time with your posts.. but yeah.
interesting how they'll never say cancer patients are cured. course, in her case, she isn't, because they're talking about it returning..but after 13 years, they won't call me cured.
but good. they'll kick the cancer's butt. and hair falling out can be fun. i pulled all mine out. :)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2006-04-24 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's right, I'd forgotten you'd had cancer young. It's a tough bugger, that cancer.
