Update on WG's mom.
Apr. 20th, 2006 09:44 pmGreat news!
Just heard from
wildernessguru's sister. The surgery on his mom went very smoothly and they believe they got 90% of the cancer. The remaining 10% (in the liver) they plan to zap with chemotherapy.
She said, "They think they can fight it back for two years. And if it returns, they'll zap it again."
WG and I are going down to see her as soon as we can, hopefully before the chemo starts so she'll be feeling a little better.
I thanked his sister effusively for keeping us up to date and told her, "I haven't seen [WG] this calm since the building was on fire. Calm and intense, planning for every worst-case scenario."
His sister snickered, "His crisis reaction, eh?"
Yeah. I think I just saw why the California Department of Fire wants him back.
Now he's back to normal, soft and snuggly. And he took a long, peaceful nap.

Ex-wildland firefighter. He's the guy they'd send in via chopper to set up the big campaign fires: "Yeah, we need x number of hose-lays, we need to cut line over there, x number men with x amount of food."

Date: 2006-04-24 05:07 am (UTC)sorry for all these comments all of a sudden. they're not really in time with your posts.. but yeah.
interesting how they'll never say cancer patients are cured. course, in her case, she isn't, because they're talking about it returning..but after 13 years, they won't call me cured.
but good. they'll kick the cancer's butt. and hair falling out can be fun. i pulled all mine out. :)
