Right after he's found guilty of manifold counts of fraud in the Enron scandal?

Am I the only one who thinks this is probably suicide? Lay was a proud man. And now Skilling has to face the music alone. Things are going to go a lot harder for him now.

I'm wondering if, for the sake of family, money, and prestigious connections (such as Dick Cheney, anyone?) this will be declared publicly death by natural causes. I mean, check out the spin on this:

It's mentioned in the article that Lay's lead lawyer had heart problems too. It would be really wicked if Lay faked his own death with the help of the lawyer . . .

At first I thought, "that's too X-Files..." and then I remembered that we were dealing with the guy responsible for Enron. A total con.

We'll be seeing him in some coco capana republic without an extradition treaty, visited monthly by Cheney after Bush is booted out of office in 2008.

Oh, or the sicker, Tom Clancy version: Lay was being leaned on by lawyers after Cheney and, in exchange for a lighter sentence, planned give up the goods on those energy policy meeting notes Cheney's invoked executive privilege to protect.

Rumsfeld's new version of the CIA is called (no kidding -- the White House didn't like how ex-CIA directors exposed the lack of WMDs in Iraq, so a new military-controlled CIA-type office has been created, headed by Rumsfeld).

Suddenly, Lay has a conveniently timed heart attack. Hmm. Where's Agatha Christie when we need her. We'll be unearthing creepy scandals from the Bush years for the next 100 years.

*shakes head, appalled* I love how the guy says Ken "felt in his heart he was innocent" neatly avoiding any statement that he was actually innocent because, you know, convicted by a jury, going to jail... it sure doesn't look like innocence to me.

Uhm, this is odd, I seem to be having a rash of coincidental thoughts today. I woke up this morning thinking that 'Sheppard Het might not be so bad, and damn I have an idea.'

Fortunately I was able to rid myself of the idea almost immediately, but I'm left with the mental image of Shep Het. I see the story was posted, so I'll tackle that tonight!

What you saw was the Carson Gen. The Sheppard!Het story's pretty long and plotty, so it'll be a bit before it's posted. But I'm hoping to have a first draft by the end of the weekend.
