John and OFCs
Jul. 19th, 2006 11:36 pmYet another OFC has turned up in that John Screws Up fic. Lorne's thrown a wrench into the works, but
wildernessguru's read it and agrees that, yeah, Lorne would do that.
Now sorting out the order of the later third of the story (since Lorne's completely screwed things up). OFC count on this story so far: five.
So far.
She'd been gorgeous and able to kick his ass easily. John had spotted her when they were being assigned quarters and had done a double-take, walking backwards into one of the guys and getting a curse that he'd barely heard. There were some days John was really happy the Air Force was co-ed.
Heat had rippled off the tarmac as she shouted a command to someone, shoving her short hair off her face, sunglasses on top of her head. She'd glanced over in John's direction and he'd felt their gazes click.
Even more impressive, she flew a C-130. The shortest, most dangerous take-offs in the world. They got all the hot assignments. The word was she was being groomed for Air Force Special Operations Command, and that John didn't have a prayer. "Aiming a little high there, aren't you, Sheppard?"
The fact that she was a major and he was just a lieutenant didn't bother him too much. Probably not as much as it should've. His opening line at the officer's club was so bad she burst out laughing. And then bought him a drink. They talked all night.
She pulled a lot of strings for him, nothing he'd asked for or particularly wanted, but she didn't like the word "no." He didn't mind, just didn't like the reputation he was getting as her "boy-toy" and the looks his friends started giving him, somewhere between disgusted and wary, like he was playing with fire.
When she got him transferred to AF-SOC with her, he did most of the training. Then realized he'd rather just fly, not be turned into some kind of human killing machine. So he said, thanks, but no thanks.
That's when he found out his friends were right. Those were two of the worst months of his career until he finally got his transfer out of there.
