Jury duty tomorrow is not going to be as much fun as I planned (though I'm still re-reading Out Of Bounds to prepare *g*).

Symptoms:

- low energy
- constant runny nose
- trash can full of tissues
- coughing, sneezing
- achy through shoulders, especially the back of the neck, ai
- enormous glass of water that keeps getting emptied
- sympathetic cat (they always know)
- sore throat
- touchy stomach (but that could be the Echinecea)
- afternoons that disappear in a haze of sleep and waking

Yep. My rough quarter and all the stress has been rounded out with a nice summer cold.

Any recs for some good SGA fics? I've read [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna's In The City Of Seven Walls a dozen times now and I probably should read something else for a bit. ;) Please, I hope [livejournal.com profile] auburnnotlisa updates Ardharinishvara soon.

Oooh I was reccing fics to a friend just last night. Turns out we both share my love of the AU. What sort of fic mood are you in?

I'll just throw a few random recs at you. None of them are new though.
A Regular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (http://out-there.livejournal.com/810081.html?view=3610721#t3610721). in which Rodney gets stuck in a time dilation field and learns Mad Ninja Skillz.

The hotline (http://community.livejournal.com/mckay_sheppard/525724.html) where John is a phone sex operator and Rodney calls.

Or this one (http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/62721.html) by Trinityofone, where they have a DADT chip so Rodney and Shep can't touch or even think porny thoughts. Poor boys! *pets them*

The Writing's on the wall (http://sakuracorr.livejournal.com/291238.html#cutid2) where John reads fanfiction after being sucked into an alternate universe.

Or have you read Kellifer_fics Blade series (http://community.livejournal.com/harlequin_sga/22760.html)? If not go and read that first. I loved it madly!!

The Road to Nevada (http://lamardeuse.dreamhost.com/sg/theroadtonevada.html) is a fave of mine too.

Anyway, I'll stop now. Like I say I was gathering links for a friend last night, so I have several more on hand if you're really bored.

cheers
Hope that cold gets better.

I'm afraid that you'll have read most of these before, but that's what happens when there are many, many excellent writers and the fandom is relatively small. It's all John/Rodney unless otherwise noted.

sexy:

Thank you! A cold's only good when it gets you out of work and ideally enables you to avoid an all-day staff meeting (preferably during the winter with hot cocoa and a fireplace -- oh, and you're just sick enough, with a raspy voice so you sound horrible on the voicemail).

It's not supposed to be when you have time off, something you're looking forward to on the horizon, in the middle summer and a looming heat wave with your boyfriend upset because he can't find his belt and you get light-headed trying to help find it.

I second (repeatedly) whoever recc'd Fates. There is of course anything else that [livejournal.com profile] auburnothenna has written, The Vapour trilogy from Auburn and [livejournal.com profile] eretria, [livejournal.com profile] murron has beautiful stuff ... Yoshino by [livejournal.com profile] eretria, uh, whatever else is over at [livejournal.com profile] allusory_tea ..... and this is kinda neat too if you haven't read it.

It sure as hell is. One reason I keep rereading it in a continuous loop like a stuck record. So tantalizing.

The other reason is it's just gorgeously written.

Here you go:

http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=7849

The best way I can describe it is as a marvelously strange future fic which is astonishingly good and disturbing sci fi. Supposedly it is a long remix/sequel of a very short story, but The Body Holographic is a hundred times better as a story than the predecessor Left To Fend. Read it if you want backstory, but don't let it put you off - all the dross turns to gold in the sequel - just give it time to get going and get strange.

Speaking of good and disturbing sci fi, have you read Trinity of One's Human Vacillation stories? Very strange and delicious. If it seems mundane - keep reading. There's a twist that changes it all. To say more would destroy the reveal. The story and sequel-y bits are here:
http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/46510.html

http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/64212.html

http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/80122.html

Also, totally unrelated, Daemonology, Down From Mount Olympus and And Truth Beauty, three wonderfully odd and beautiful bits of fantasy, also by Trinity of One.

Oh, The Deep Has Music Where Corals Lie is awesome. Rare to find an author who writes imperfect sex so... um, perfectly. I'm working my way through the Vapour trilogy and just read Yoshino (so hot). I haven't been able to get into Three Fates yet. Auburn, well, I'm definitely a fan.

Down From Mt. Olympus is one of my all-time favorite John-fics. Daemonology I've tried but couldn't get into, but hmm... I've never tasted some of these others. Let's see...

I know and I can't believe it took me this long to find The Deep Has Music Where Corals Lie. It is not often I completely miss an author like that, but I am glad I did this time. Considering the mush I was trawling through at the time it made my evening.

Calligraphy (Eretria) is hot too, literally.

Between Mona, Auburn, E and Murron you can get a little of many styles I think. Gen, het, slash and crack on that weird 'n wacky day. As for Auburn? Yeah. After all I found myself doing fanart of Seven Walls. I'm still in shock over that. My need for drama and darkness gets fed.

Date: 2006-08-22 03:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com
Well, The Deep is easy to miss because of the title. It has little relationship to the story so readers are likely to pass it by.

Fan art? Really? Let's see it.

I think it is more to do with me totally missing the author :) Oh well, solved that problem didn't i?

Eh, it is sucky fanart that drove me nuts ... but here:

That's beautiful. The darkness around John's face and chest is expressive, and the delicate painting on his back and the detail in the background lovely. I hope you're able to do a scan that encompasses the whole composition.

Icarus

The page won't fit in the bed of the scanner, it is too large. I don't own anything useful like a digital camera either ... plus scanning greylead is notoriously difficult. Half of the shading on John goes missing and you can't see that he does actually have body hair. Really!

I have entire sketches of what Rodney paints on him as well as outfits for all the characters and the crest of the Haralim.

So yeah, still not that happy with it :)

I still think it's gorgeous and sad, but I know what you mean about pencil not scanning. *sigh* From experience. I wish I could see your sketches of the patterns on John... I assume you have the equations in there?

I'll see if I can clean them up a little (ergo make the fibonacci spiral much more fibonacci) and find a scanner. Calligraphy for string theory equations is .. odd.
