The election results. Wow.

This is better than I hoped. *makes popcorn for the Virginia Senate race*

In the first smart move Bush has made in six years, Rumsfeld is gone. The Democrats would have called for his removal in their next breath.

The military top brass is against him (for damned good reason), the soldiers have started a petition against the war, the intelligence community can breathe a sigh of relief as this will likely torch Rumsfeld's attempt to create his own Pentagon-controlled intelligence agency (we would have been back to burning Castro's beard in no time).

Rumsfeld is gone.

Wow.

The rubber-stamp congress is gone. The "Halliburton corruption, what Halliburton corruption?" congress is gone. The "we control the playground so we can do what we want" congress is gone.

I want to throw Nancy Pelosi a party.

I can't tell you how happy I was when I heard Vermont elected a Socialist Senator. Oh, for the days when we have four, even five parties.

I can barely believe it. I have to keep reminding myself that this is what hope feels like, that this is what joy feels like.

I like it.

It's been a long time, hasn't it? It occurs to me that I started actively following politics in 1992 and only two years later was the Newt-sweep.

I feel like I might actually get what I want for Christmas. An investigation or two.

First, let's hire all the lawyers....

I loved what Obama said about Iraq last night: "We have to make a plan based on facts, not ideology." Wow. A voice of reason.

That is the fastest I have got out of bed in a long time, getting up to turn up the news to make sure I wasn't hearing things about Rumsfeld.

:)

I was just thinking today "I haven't felt like this since 1992."

Good news for all, US or non-US citizens alike. You guys could - and did - vote. Thanks!

I'm just glad it turns out that the American public's tolerance for corruption, war, and torture isn't limitless after all.

There's been a lot of talk about the Foley scandal, but I think the administration made HUGE missteps in publicly endorsing torture, and holding political prisoners without counsel, and unrestricted spying on its own citizenry. The lessons the Third Reich taught have not been entirely forgotten yet, and those in power were a little too blatant in showing contempt for the people at home as well as enemies (both real and manufactured) overseas.

*snickers* Really.

Yes, you're right.

Bush: "I stand for your values."

Religious right: "Torture? Stalin-esque spying?"

The argument may have been worked such that for the religious right to argue with it, they'd have to say they're endorsing terrorism, but it seems that Bush has forgotten that the religious groups are the same people who send money to Save The Children Fund. I've no doubt the torture bill disturbed them.

It's over for Bush. He capitalized on 9-11 as much anyone possibly could, and now he's about to experience the opposite of what he's had for the better part of his presidential career.

Yeah, it's been since 1992. What's that? I think I hear the sound of chickens coming home to roost.

Can you believe the arrogance of passing a torture bill only a month before the election? [livejournal.com profile] bruinsfan has a point. That probably really turned off a lot of people.
