icarus: (Out Of Bounds 2)
[personal profile] icarus
Hi guys, I just asked [livejournal.com profile] rike_tikki_tavi this, but I'd throw the floor open.

I'm going strong on Out Of Bounds (knock wood, crosses fingers, and basically pulls out every superstition against obstacles known to man, up to and including a Tibetan fire puja).

I could start posting a scene every day or so. It would make sense, given how the music needs to posted with the scenes. Or I could wait until I hit the next major, um, crux of the story, and post a large piece.

What do you think?

I kinda like big chunks,so I can get into it, but I'll take it any way you want to post it. So glad you're going strong on the writing. :)

What about medium sized chunks every few days?

I think you should do whichever puts the least pressure on you.

Which is a cop-out of a statement, but I felt I needed to be on topic before I could veer a bit and tell you how you have just smushed my brain.

I was scrolling through opera clips on youtube and this one: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WdxRmcgsKDQ is accompanying skating and then I had mental images of it being John and Rodney (John is clearly the girl.
And now I am in a mild fit of giggles which can't wholly be attributed to not at enough sleep and three days of code testing at work.

Perversely, this is a good thing, and I am about to watch it again...

I vote for large bits, but this is selfishly because I'm going to be off the internet for an indeterminate length of time and it's easier to make sure I get everything if it's in big pieces.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] fractalreality--figure out what stresses you least. I'd hate to kill your newly-discovered mojo by making you fight with coding and music uploads. :-)

I'm conflicted.Really, I am. :o)

On one hand I'd love some more skating, but on the other hand you really have been on a roll writing-wise and I would hate for that to break. Plus, like [livejournal.com profile] starrylizzard I love big chunks. So, post whenever is better for your writing, and we'll just sit here and gnaw on our fingernails some more. ;)

YES POST! Any little bits as soon as they can be made postable! *g*

It doesn't work. I have to hit certain breaks in the story or else you're left hanging, so it's either one scene at a time as I've been doing it, or posting up to where it's reached a major part of the arc.

Hmm. I forgot about the music. I really need to post each music section separately.

I can wait for bigger chunks, I have the patience, I promise. (LOL - what I really mean is I want big chunks every day!)

I can hold out for a big chunk, if it will be coming soon. And by soon I mean less than 10 days. (One must define ones terms after all ^_^)

Heh. Of course we all do. If only I could write that fast....

I've decided that I'll hit the next big crux of the story, and then post in several parts on the same day or so. As it works out, I have to separate the sections for the music (Icarus realizes belatedly) or else it won't be clear what section each piece is for). *g*

Or if I get stuck I'll just post in itty bitty pieces to keep myself motivated.

God, you should hear this music I have for Radek back in 1986.

I'm seeing a strong inclination towards larger sections.

I think what I'll do is hit the next big crux in the story, then post in several parts on the same day or so -- because each music section needs to be posted separately or it won't be clear which section it belongs to.

A) Hot Icon. And I'm not a fan of Cam.

B) Ha! There's a distinct pattern of preference for more, more, more! (Why am I surprised.)

I'll have to post the music sections separately or it'll get confusing as to which part goes with which song. Hmm. At the moment I'm planning to post in several sections over the same couple of days, but not post until I've hit a major point in the arc.

Well, for me that's posting in small pieces.

I'm opening that YouTube as we speak (it takes a while on dial-up). I'll tell you what I think later. *g*

I love it that people are reminded of Out Of Bounds by other things. There's a surprising amount of figure skating (and figure skaters) in the world.

Well, nothing wrong with a little selfishness. There are a lot of votes for big sections. What, the readers saying "more, more"? And I'm surprised? *snickers*

Figure skating has always associated itself with weird things for me as I've grown up, but I adore Out of Bounds; is partly what has made me sign up for [livejournal.com profile] anotheratlantis because there is an AU on there that has made me decide to actually write my first piece of SGA fanfiction.

If it goes horribly wrong, can I partly blame you? :P

Ah. This one?

26. Ronon's a star NBA player and John's the hustler he picks up in a club one night. Ronon's agent, Rodney, throws a fit and insists that Ronon date pop star Teyla because "basketball isn't ice skating and anyway America really doesn't like queer sports stars." Wacky hijinks ensue when Rodney falls for Teyla, and Ronon and John prove to be terrible at being discreet. Feel free to go to the OT4 place or to keep it Ronon/John and Rodney/Teyla.

Sounds cool. /John voice

I am insanely drawn to the soccer one; y'see, I've spent most of my life playing football (not soccer, because when I write it it'll be McKay bitching about silly Americanisms because it's global and he's of Scottish heritage... I mean, um, if I happen to get the one I request) and whenever I see someone get a term wrong it drives me mental. So I saw that request and thought I may as well give it a go as it's the one thing I know inside out.

I'm not a great writer, or even a mediocre one, but at least this way I get it halfway right by knowing the subject matter even if I can't pin down the character voices

That sounds like fun. I threw in a prompt of my own (http://community.livejournal.com/anotheratlantis/943.html?thread=21679#t21679), though if I sign up -- shoot me.

Anyone who's seen enough James Bond movies could pull it off.

By the way, I think you writing a soccer football fic is a brilliant idea. It makes all the difference to have your research in place. Go, you.

I've spent the last week coding new football skins into our newspapers database for the new release, so it's been on my mind constantly - I had a fit of hysterics when looking at Raith Rovers (an obscure Scottish team)... their sponsors are coolface.

You just can't make that kind of shit up.

I am totally putting them in my story

This is my natural inclination, though the bulk of the votes are leaning towards large pieces.

I'm think I'll post in pieces -- because the music has to be posted with each music related section -- but have them clustered around the same day or two. That should work for everyone.

I think they are a refrigeration company; but it was just the idea of a (w)raith team, with coolface written on their shirts - it cracked me up completely.

I'm starting to think that was caffeine induced now though...

I'm a fan of the bigger chunks...but I also know that sometimes the scene just fits better on its own..in which case I suggest posting it right away....so I'm all for whatever is best for you.

I sat down and counted how the scenes would have to break (because of the music) if I posted them in larger pieces:

Four parts as opposed to six.

Heh. That doesn't make much difference.
