Which celebrity would reduce you to a mindless, giggling fangirl?

In my case: Joe Flanigan.

Okay. His winning a downhill skiing event and not telling anyone and not using it to fuel a PR machine has got me hooked.

Then the fact that he calls his role on Stargate Atlantis his "job" and "work."

Add to that the fact that he showed up to interview with just a daypack on his shoulder and no PA or official posse... *sighs.* I like this guy.

That questions about himself get a monosyllabic answer while if you ask him "big questions" like, oh, "tell us about the nature of science fiction" and "let's talk about global warning" he'll expound for a while -- and actually have something insightful to say.

Then on top of that, in the behind the scenes commentaries he's a naughty, flirtatious little boy.

*pats him*

*stares at a photo*

*sighs happily*

This is the real reason I won't go to conventions. ;)

There's no celebrity that, if you met them in person, you're fairly sure you'd make a fool of yourself? Or am I just too vague and unclear that I mean "meeting them in person"? Or you just didn't know these little details about Joe which in no way, shape or form mean I have a crush, nuh-uh ?

Sorry, I was the one who was vague and unclear! Yeah, I absolutely know that feeling, and JF is prime candidate for evoking it. I meant that I wasn't familiar with some of what you mentioned, like the skiing thing (link, please?), and I should be!

(Also, what photo are you staring at? I want to stare too. *g*)

I don't think I have a celebrity I'd do that with/to. Meeting people in RL fills me with terror, meeting a famous person (who it wouldn't even be possible to have a casual 'who are you, what do you do, where do you live' type conversation? I'll be over in the corner people watching, thank you!

(I would, however, love to see [livejournal.com profile] fides meet Peter Wingfield again, apparently she turns into fangirl extraordinaire and asks him silly questions *and he answers* up to, and including, playing up to (if not explicitly referring to) Highlander slash)

There's no link for the skiing. I just stumbled on it a while ago -- he won a downhill skiing race in 2005-06 I think it was. And not a peep about it, in fact, that news didn't even surface for about a year.

That suggests it was personal enough he wasn't looking for attention. (Or his PR person sucks, but I suspect the former.)

I've been looking at Crys' art. And staring at [livejournal.com profile] beanniesheppard's icon in this post:

Oh, the dessert camo's hot, but the icon, the icon! (http://beaniesheppard.livejournal.com/157149.html)

I've been astonished that I didn't make a complete fool of myself when I've met my favorite hot celebs. I've been to Highlander, Buffyverse, and Gateverse cons, and haven't made an idiot of myself once, even though I'd been sure I would.

The closest I came was probably when Adrian Paul was standing not two feet in front of me, and gazing into my eyes and saying with a seductive smile, "Come on, you know you want it." I'm quite sure I stopped breathing for a while there. He's staggeringly charismatic in person. Hell, I still get a little breathless thinking about it. (I choose to ignore the context, by the way. The fact that I was surrounded by two hundred other fangirls and that he was simply offering me -- and everyone else in the room -- chocolates is entirely beside the point.)

As for The Flan, he's a complete dreamboat (http://malnpudl.livejournal.com/61576.html). It surprised the hell out of me that I held it together, and remarkably well. Go know.

I don't think I could meet any famous person without becoming a mindless giggling fangirl, but JF would probably reduce me to catatonia from gorgeousness and the reasons you said. He's my ultimate crush.

I'd like to say I'd be 'cool' when meeting an actor or celebrity, but I ran into Mare Winningham in our local video store. I stopped dead. I had this sense that I knew her from somewhere. I thought it was from highschool, and just as I was about to ask her where I knew her from she looked away in dismissal. I wasn't until I got out the door that I realized who she was. I was completely embarrassed because she probably thought I was star struck. I'm just afraid something similar would happen if I ever met a 'celebrity' at a con or such.

I didn't like JF at first. He definitely grows on you... deeply. Thanks for sharing regarding the skiing. I had no idea.

I was lucky enough to have a nice few moments with JF on two ocaasions last year, (the second because he had remembered me from the first), and he is every bit a lovely as he comes across, just very normal and sweet, (and snarky). Also if you ever get the chance to talk with Kavan Smith (Maj Lorne), take it, another sweetheart, not to mention a very interesting and knowledgable guy.

I met Dirk Benedict at a con a bazillion years ago and immediately turned into a twelve year old who couldn't say anything coherant.

I also met James Doohan who was a complete and utter gentleman dispite the fact that he was very ill and in a wheelchair.

I'm sure if I met JF, I would certainly act like I had the IQ of an eggplant...and I'd probably drool.

I'll concede that meeting Joe Flannigan in person would reduce me to a babbling fanboy. Just like meeting Robert Duncan McNeil (Tom Paris of ST Voyager) back in 1995 did. He was so cute and the freckles made him even more adorable. And I was all giggles when I ran across Weird Al Yankovich in some building in NYC, I was so tongue-tied that I couldn't even say hi or acknowledge that I knew who he was.

Hahah, I had a similar experience with a Danish tv personality - met him in my local supermarket, and was all "oh, where do I know him from, again - highschool?", while he was all deer-in-the-headlights, "oh, no, she recognizes me and ANY MINUTE will start talking to me, and I really don't have the time/patience!"

Not going to conventions is a sensible choice - all it did for me was inflame my silly Flanigan crush to unmanageable proportions! He was just gorgeous, and smart, and, and everything! *girlish sigh*
I also avoid interviews for the same reason - my foolish heart just does not need to know any more about how insightful and intelligent his replies might be, or how casually accomplished at so many things he is... *goes for quiet lie-down in a darkened room*

I'd thought it was only Dominic Keating (Enterprise) that I'd go all giggly for, but I recently realised that it's also Nikolai Morozov, the former skater turned skating coach. Thing is, it's got little to go with looks (thus Nikolai, who looks like a regular guy - good looking and fit, but like someone's cute dad, not a rock star or anything), and EVERYTHING to do with force of personality.

DK would get me tongue tied, no doubt. The eyes, and his personality, would slay me. I know this.

But Nikolai surprised me by doing that to me in an on-ice choreography class. He used me as his demo while he was demonstrating how to skate the idea "passion", and I just went to pieces. He's going all "passion" all over me, all eye contact and etc., and I'm just giggling like a schoolgirl and blushing frantically. However, at toward the end there, I got over myself enough to actually do a bit of acting - so he's all "passion", and I lean back, cross my arms, and raise one scathing eyebrow. The class burst out laughing.

I have no idea. Honestly. My fangirl crushes change fairly frequently. Over the years, I've been through Jason Cole (Marcus from B5), Keifer Sutherland, Steven Baldwin (yes, I know *cringes*), Jensen Ackles (still have a bit of a crush there *g*), Ben Browder, David Hewlett, and now the latest is Matt Austin. *see icon*

So...it's hard for me to say. But since DragonCon is coming up and there are just so many guests *takes a moment to breathe* I guess I will be finding out...

I seem to be able to keep my cool when meeting actor-type celebrities. Perhaps because much of their charisma is based on attractiveness, and I spent the summer of 2000 hanging out with a friend whose scorching hotness puts that of any Hollywood people I've met to shame (giving me lots of practice at not openly drooling). But talented writers, directors, and athletes are a different ball game. A case of non-profane Tourette's has hit me every time I've been in the presence of Joss Whedon or Ray Bourque, and I suspect that Gordie Howe, Jane Espenson, Bryan Fuller, and Todd Holland could likewise reduce me to babbling idiocy if I met them.

Ben Browder would be a double-whammy, wouldn't he? And in light of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5SjJ5_uWa4) collapse might be a real possibility if our paths ever crossed.

My entire life people have squealed over how tiny I am, and made dolphin noises over my little hands and tiny feet. I mean, we're talking first day of school at a new school in fourth grade and getting my hands grabbed by classmates (complete strangers) and pointed out to their friends -- "Look at this!" *squeeaaal!*

These days the only women smaller than me are Asian, and I'm usually daintier than they are.

I'm drawing a blank on how I picture people on the internet. I think I imagine people look like their default icon.... *g*

Heh. The kids clothes are, um, shaped all wrong and don't fit. *cough* For entirely different reasons. Fortunately most women's clothes come in size 2.

It's the shoes that are a problem. Women's shoes do not go down to my size and so I (and every Asian woman in the city ;) have only one or two styles to choose from. When I was helping a crossdresser (size 12 shoes!) buy clothes I may hve gone hog wild with the shoes, living vicariously.

As for the grabbing and squealing, yes, I learned at an early age to stay out of reach so people couldn't grab me like a little doll.
