Vote.

Have you heard about this?

Ohnotheydidnt has pimped for [livejournal.com profile] jameth, telling people that a "Harry Potter dork" is running.

The fandom turnout has been tepid, with only 5,000 around votes cast. Ohnotheydidnt has a list of 40,000 watchers.

Maybe you think this is a cardboard badge. Maybe you don't care.

But if you look at the comments in [livejournal.com profile] jameth's post and in [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt, [livejournal.com profile] jameth's pals are anti-fandom.

It was also posted in [livejournal.com profile] omg_too_soon which has 1940 members and 1637 watchers.

edit for numbers

I'm not surprised.

Can I steal this post? May as well try to get my flist in action.

Go right ahead.

correction: they aren't my pals. They just choose to vote for me.

You have cultivated an anti-fandom vote. I'm sure you're aware that McCain just ditched John Hagee. It matter who you're with.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
*matters, sigh. One day I'll be able to edit comments.

*checks MoveOn.org to see if I got the spelling of Hagee right* Yep.

Thank you for the work you're doing for this. It's thankless but I for one really appreciate it.

I don't find it thankless at all, but you're very welcome. Of course.

I'm very glad you don't find it thankless. Please keep up the good work. :)

I voted. I'll see if I can get my husband and kids to vote, too. They all have LJ accounts, but I don't think any of them are really following the election. I'll send them the link to the candidates' statements.

Edited for clarity and to correct a stupid error.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. He started catching up last night, but now, whew. He's keeping pace but people are starting to vote in fandom.

[identity profile] sage-theory.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So far, [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy seems to be ahead.

Also? I think it was kind of a big mistake to campaign on a platform of "the other guy is a Harry Potter dork". If anything, it's kind of an endorsement in and of itself.

Because out of 40,000 watchers, I imagine a good deal of those are Harry Potter dorks themselves. Just because you're one of the cool kids doesn't mean you didn't get up at midnight for the Book 7 release party.

I'm definitely pimping for [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a very good point. And honestly? There were people in fandom who were initially rather amused and supportive of him. Initially. He obliterated the fandom vote when he accused first [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy and then her supporters (largely fandom) of cheating. That blunder alone would be enough to demonstrate that he doesn't have the political skill for this job.

I guess he was hoping that he could either undermine [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy's support (instead of consolidating it the way he has) or protect his own ego in the event of a loss.

I ran across this on my f-list: He says he's not a troll but then he pulls stunts like this. Is there another word for it? (http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Poop_drama)

And I've just checked his LJ and he's finally done it - he's played the Harry Potter slash/peadophile card.

At this stage, it's just a case of 'pass me the popcorn' methinks....

I don't get it. It's like someone knocked out the real candidate-named-[livejournal.com profile] jameth, locked him in a trunk, and hired Ms Scribe to play the perfect troll so that [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy doesn't have to do any campaigning at all.

At this stage I think he realises he's going to lose and wants to go out with the biggest bang possible - it's a bit...yeah, whatever. He probably thinks this is his coolest prank yet - all I know is that I really don't want to be see his name again, after this week. Bullies annoy me, full stop.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've pretty much had it with him. I was getting annoyed with [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy for not showing up, but I'm more annoyed with [livejournal.com profile] jameth. If he starts to gain appreciably in the polls I'll pay attention, but I've other things to do (that I should have been doing in the first place).

[identity profile] dr-jasley.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
thanks for keeping me updated...I tend to not like politics( I end up getting way too flustered and rant and rave for hours) but voted anyways..because fandom affillation or not we need someone on the board who's open minded and willing to actually think about things as non bias as possible..

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. And, yeah, I get stirred up, too.

[identity profile] caseylane.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 03:48 am (UTC)(link)

I already voted but I'll admit I'm confused. Would we be better voting for legomymalfoy for all three positions? With the "remove the bottom number" thing I'm just not sure.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
It's better to vote for three different people. *nods*

[identity profile] caseylane.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I did, but then I started thinking they might combine the numbers.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, this post (http://jameth.livejournal.com/4346823.html) is totally self-promoting on [livejournal.com profile] jameth's part, but it's the best explanation of run-off voting I've seen.

[identity profile] caseylane.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!
