Obama signed pay equity act for women.

This will make it harder for employers to get away with paying women less. Woo.

Obama points out that this act doesn't just benefit women: it benefits two-income families -- pretty much everyone I konw.

Pretty much everything I heart about Obama makes me want to cry - in a good way. I just really hope that his influence will spread across the Atlantic really quickly.

He's very international. You can borrow him.

The Republicans (Bush's party) are staunchly refusing to cooperate on Obama's economic rescue plan. Not a single one voted for it.

Found an article (AP, I think) pointing out that voting against the stimulus plan is really a prediction of a bad economy, so if it works, Republicans will look like morons. But most of them don't have viable Democratic challengers in their home districts, so they have a motive to play to base, and they're gambling that this stimulus will work about as well as the Bush version from last fall, meaning they'll be in a position to say "I told you so."

Hmm, my company's prez will not be pleased. For some bizarre - and I'm sure completely unintentional reason - the women in our company are paid on average $15K less than the men for the same job, regardless of seniority.

The problem with Bush's version last fall is that the banks have held onto the money and haven't started lending. Which is exactly what happened in the Great Depression when FDR did the same. What actually got us out of the Great Depression was the massive government spending -- and work for everyone -- during WWII.

*whistles* That's a big difference.

What I've noticed is that women start out making less in the first place and then aren't given the raises they deserve as they go, and then it adds up. Each new job pays according to what was made at the last job -- and there you have it. By the time women are pretty high up, they're making far less.

Rumor has it - and this is several years before my time, so take it as hearsay and with a grain of salt - that he actually *demoted* a woman in pay when she proved to be too good at sales, making her a VP, but cutting her salary significantly and getting rid of the commission aspect. She wasn't given a choice in the matter, from what I was told. (Well, other than the obvious one of quitting.) The guy is a piece of work, let me tell you.
