[livejournal.com profile] tinderblast and I cooked up an idea for a different kind of BNF Deathmatch: pitting an authors' own stories against each other.

So this is pretty informal. Anonymous posts aren't counted, neither are votes that don't state some reason (however spurious) for the preference. The selection of the two stories are completely arbitrary, though I do allow write-in votes.

Since technically this is just another way to garner reviews, I don't think anyone's going to object. But I've always been curious about this sort of thing.

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE.

Let's kick this off with [livejournal.com profile] epicyclical:

After The Flood. Draco/Harry, Ron. NC-17.

Draco Veritas Draco, Harry, etc., PG-13.

On an unrelated note, [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru and I have just realised that, yes, our kitty is getting fat. Ooops

(ETA: vote for your favourite. Thanks Lily.)

ETA2: It's more fun if we don't slam one or another story. *ouch* I happen to like them both.

You can still vote, (this was early, so very few did) but if you're curious the results are here.

Later votes -
Maya, Amanuensis, Rushlight, Sushi, Aspen, Cybele, and Anna.

Wait, so we're supposed to vote on which story we like best? After the Flood, no doubt about it. It's Harry/Draco, it's NC-17, it's angsty, and Draco Veritas is boring.

After the Flood. I love that story.

After the Flood by a landslide. The Draco Trilogy bores the hell out of me, but I like fucked-in-the-head H/D like AtF.

Haven't been able to bring myself to read Draco Veritas (I hate Draco. Hate him.), but After The Flood wasn't a bad fic. I'll go with that.

Sorry, but the opportunities to publicly admit to not liking DV are rare and it went to my head. I'll do better next time.

LOL! You seem to have plenty of company. I'm really surprised at the results so far. I really expected an outpouring of praise for DV.

I'm just looking at it from the writer's point of view. If people praised Beg Me For It by saying 'yeah, Primer to the Dark Arts is puerile' I'd wince.

True enough.

I'm rather surprised by the vote as well, honestly.

I love the Trilogy, personally. Still, I have to vote for "After the Flood," solely because of the whole "evil rings the doorbell" thing. Definitely one of my favorite moments in all of fanfic.

I´m voting for After the Flood, since it´s slash and Draco Veritas isn´t.

I'll be a vote for DV.

I do like After the Flood, but the Draco Trilogy was among the stories that drew me into fandom, so it holds a special place.

Plus, sometimes I am really in the mood for plot, subplots, and sub-sub-plots.

Urgh. Choosing between the two is like choosing between chocolate and ice cream - just give me both dammit! After The Flood gets my vote, but they are both so very good.

After the Flood, hands down.

Draco Veritas is a WIP though Draco Dormiens is not and that's a wonderful story and I loved After the Flood but not as much as A Season In Hell. Um. I'm not helping, am I?

I'll call that a write-in vote for A Season In Hell. :)

I preferred After The Flood because ASIH is just too dark for me, I didn't like Harry in it, and the food - er - turned my stomach. But ATF had 'patient best friend' Ron and 'irresponsible and confused' Draco the-awful-guest. There was a strange sense of resolution to it, even though none of them could really tell where they were headed. So that's why I picked that one.

Oh boy. Here it comes.... ;)

Actually, I think we're done with this vote.

I vote for After the Flood, because I enjoy the Draco much better, and DV is seeming to stretch on for a bit longer than the characters themselves can stand... (although this choice is going against my inner gut. Marisol? Voting for a Harry/Draco piece?? The world has stopped turning!!)

After the Flood. (Though I also love DV, there's just something about fucked up H/D that I cannot resist. And man is it hot.)

Why only Draco Veritas? May I vote for the whole trilogy? If not, count it for DV. So, voting for DT 'cos her managing with such a volume without losing plot-lines or forgetting what it's all about etc deserves a vote or two :) Anyway, although I don't look forward to the new chapter, I enjoyed the fic immensely when i was reading it.

?

Why don't you look forward to the next chapter?

*Sighs* Because I HATE WIPs. If you like smth (and I like DT), it's a torture to wait for a new chapter. When I started reading DD, I didn't know that 14 (or were it 15?) chapters of the third novel of the trilogy meant it was still WIP. Otherwise I would put it off. She updates it not so often nowadays, and I decided that rather than wait half a year for a new chapter, I'll wait until it's been finished and *then* read. Anyway I have to re-read previous two-tree parts to 'soak' with the story and enjoy reading properly. Like with all the WIPs.

And i even don't want to think what if she (or the authors of the other 5 WIPs I follow [yes, I still fall in the trap however much I try to prevent it ;/]) never finishes it.

I always regard an abandoned fic as a personal betrayal. I even once (in Rammstein RPS community) wrote a fic-calling for the dead - a story where an old man goes to a cemetery to tell his last goodbye to his former friend and lovers.
