One of our voters pointed out that it was possibly unfair to pit the sheer behemoth power of novel-length fics against short stories.

Hm.

I considered it. But then I watched The Reader (a write-in) rack up the points. It was a very close race, and had Inot had class this morning ended it at 10 am it would have been quite a different outcome. The winner is (by a hair):

The Reader came in second with 24 votes.

Atrophy claimed a clean win for third with 12 votes

I have to thank you, Icarus, for singlehandedly guiding me through the fandom. I am rather new to Potterverse, and was kind of overwhelmed by the numer of authors and fics out there...and by the number of lousy ones I had come across. I know I can rely on your posts to direct me to great stories I would otherwise never find and introducing me to wonderful authors. I must also express my undying gratitude to you for convincing me that Snape can be sexy :o)

This is fantastic. I never realised people might use these as recommendations, but indeed they are.

To tell you the truth, I've found new stories this way, too. To give you a little more, the ultimate authority on recommendations (with a slant towards the dark/angst) is Switchknife's Slash Recommendations (http://aeristerra.com/switchknife/). Everything in there is excellent, and there are hundreds of stories. Plus the site is updated regularly.
