Hooray for the lady in the purple dress
Jun. 19th, 2004 11:25 amYesterday an exhausted, over-heated dog was tied up in the blazing sun outside the post office. A big black lady in a purple dress pulled up in a new Honda.
She finished her errands, glanced over at the dog... then bought some bottled water and rummaged around in her car for something to use as a water dish. It didn't work well, a lot spilled, but puppy-dog lapped it up happily, obviously very thirsty. She drove away, without applause or fanfare, expecting none.
I'm still grinning.
On another note, apparently people announce these things. So, my friendslist hit 500 a few weeks ago.
I feel like I should have a prize for the 500th customer. *ding*

Date: 2004-06-19 01:29 pm (UTC)Random person story: I was sitting on the subway in Boston and finished a mystery novel. The woman next to me was reading, but put her bookmark in and dug into her bag for something. I noticed the book as a mystery I'd read earlier that week and said something to her. We got talking about mysteries and she mentioned that she needed a new mystery author to read. I realized that I had one in my hands and said, "Oh, here's one!" She was really surprised that I meant for her to take the book, but I told her, "I won't read it again. You should have it!" We chatted for a few more stops and then she got off.
I'm not sure exactly why your story reminded me of that, but maybe it's the complete randomness of it. You see something, you do it, 'nuff said...
I'll stop babbling now. :)
