Year-end writing meme
Taken from
aome. Apparently this circles around every year.
1. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?I thought my last fic was going to be Primer to the Dark Arts. Then I wrote A Moment of Sin. And then... well, it just exploded.
2. What pairing (or genre or fandom) did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2003?I was strictly a Harry/Ron person, who got hooked on Harry/Snape. What pairings didn't I predict? LOLOLOLOLOLOL!
Ron/DracoHarry/Percy
Harry/Ron/Snape (oh, it said
pairings didn't it?)
Percy/Snape
Ron/Snape
Draco/Percy
Hagrid/Buckbeak
Harry/Cho
Hermione/Rita
Ron/Sirius
Percy/Ron
Percy/Dumbledore
Percy/Lucius
Pretty much everything I wrote.
I still haven't written Harry/Draco.
3. What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest. That's a toss-up. I have to say there are four of them:
A Moment of Sin - because of the magic and the description, the mystery and the building tension. Terry Boot was so vivid.
Beg Me For It (the first part) - because of Ron's sense of humour in the darkness. He was non-stop.
Sweet Hypocrisy - because Percy was supposed to just get a comeuppance, and instead he took over the character in the story, inhabited him, showed me his rose-coloured glasses and blindness and unexpected nobility and I fell in love.
Skinny Dipping - because of Harry and Percy together. Percy's fragility brought out Harry's horny bastard and gentleness at the same time. They were so unexpectedly sweet together.
4. Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?Beg Me For It. Non-con arena fic where the Death Eaters took over? Ron/Draco when I thought there wasn't a chance in hell they could ever work out -- and keeping it dark but laughing at the DEs? How 'bout keeping Ron masculine but putting him into a dress, stoned out of his mind (when I've never done the stuff (ah, but
wildernessguru sure has -- he didn't think I could pull it off. Write what you know, eh? Just proved I have an alive imagination.)
But the real risk is yet to come: SNAFU.
( Cut because I'm whining back here )5. Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?I never set goals. And if I do, I never tell people what they are. But if I
were to set goals, it would be to start the process of rejection slips by writing and sending original fiction to sources of rejection letters. Because I've had a lot people encouraging me down that miserable and self-destructive path. The other would be to write Snape Manor, which has had two incarnations so far: one pre-OotP and one post-OotP. Another -- finish Beg Me For It. Because I am just soooooo close.
It would be fun to do a Snape trilogy, just to prove I could do it.
