Hear ye, hear ye!

[livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion is now issuing a challenge to the voters of [livejournal.com profile] hpbnfdeathmatch to, as ye vote for ye favourite bnf (you do not want to know what [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru thought that acronym stood for), that ye shalt also Name Ye Favourite Fic/Artwork/Whatever of selfsame author so that I can selfishly use it to find new stories to enjoy All Persons Shalt Be Able To Judge The Worke fairly and equitably.

*Trumpets sound. Banners snap. And the horses dump turds on the road as the procession moves on to another town. "Hear ye, hear ye..."*

Yeah, I think that doing this will help ensure that the karma stays good and people will stop with the pointless negativity. I first voted out huge affection for people and then stopped because of the sheer rudeness of some voters. So maybe this emphasis on the person's work will make the focus swing back to what I assumed the purpose of the journal was, which was to shill the participants to broader fandom.

It's actually really hard to find people's stories if they don't have a link to a website. I looked everywhere for Kay Taylor's stuff and was completely stumped.

She's at the Restricted Section - one of her stories is amazing, '7 days in a sepia room' is the title, I think. But iirc her journal is friends-locked?

It sure is! I even tried friending her, hoping she'd friend back. No luck. Bugger. I'll check her out at the restricted section. LOL. Why didn't I think of that?

Actually, there was pointless negativity in the first round, but I haven't seen any since -- though I bet the [livejournal.com profile] epicyclical round got nasty. I'm just getting... bored with the voting process? I really tried to find some of these authors stories and it drove me a little batty when I couldn't. Urg! So many people saying - "she's great!" and then, no fic for me to read. I did find two authors and thought they were both excellent.

I initially thought the whole thing was just a piss take and would peter out after a few rounds, but the contest has legs, which surprises me. I stopped reading the votes once they got nasty and after practically everyone I voted for didn't make it through (Minx? Cybele? that's just nutty).

I also got really tired of reading 'WHO?!??' about contestants like that was a valid comment to make when all it takes is a click of the mouse to find out who they are. I thought that was really embarrassing, actually. LIke try breaking out of your little fandom ghetto some time.

I haven't found any new authors, though, as most of the people I hadn't heard of are artists and that's not really my thing ...

What I'm doing is asking people (who don't vote anonymously) what such and such has written/drawn -- and can you give me a link? So far, so good. I haven't read anything yet, but I have at least two new authors to try.

I also had the opportunity to rec stories by [livejournal.com profile] resonant8, [livejournal.com profile] rushlight75 and [livejournal.com profile] mctabby in return. It's feeling a little like a Christmas gift exchange. :D

Those people are all good writers, though, and have been rec'd from here to kingdom come, so I'm surprised that they're not better known. It feels like the death match journal is the deliberate intersection of the Snape-y elements and the H/D and old skool fans, and so in some ways I'm *not* surprised when the better authors aren't known to people who don't read outside of certain parameters ... but no, I AM still shocked

bnf (you do not want to know what wildernessguru thought that acronym stood for)

mm-k, this is probably incredibly obvious and I'm just missing it, but - *raises hand* *wants to know*

As, in general, the [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru bits you share with us are very amusing, I must admit I'm curious...

Er. You have to understand that many of his ex-boyfriends were black (and given that his dad is and utter uppercrust conservative racist is a sociological story in and of itself)... ahem. You also have to bear in mind that he is very politically incorrect and... oh, well. Try not to be too offended.

BNF= (in the world of the Guru) Big. Nigger. Fucker.

I did warn you...

*snicker*

Ok, not that I'm condoning or agreeing or anything of the sort that could be taken as offensive to anyone, but... the thought of a BNF death match, using that meaning, just... mwhahaha.
