icarus: (Out Of Bounds 2)
Guys, I just want to say how great you all are for sticking with Out Of Bounds for so long, through sleet and snow, past deaths in the family, and a long break where I had to learn a heck of a lot more about figure skating in order to keep writing.

You all have remarkable stamina.

Believe it or not, the story was started in February 2006, just after the close of the last Olympics. You guys are amazing and your enjoyment and encouragement have kept me going on a fic that today just topped 100,000 words. I hope that you've enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you all.

You can get caught up here: Out Of Bounds.

Title: Out Of Bounds
Author: Icarus
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: John/Rodney
Summary: "Maybe the Olympics weren't meant for people like us. Maybe you need to be like my brother, where you will do anything."
A/N: Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] perfica for playing OOB beta badminton with me all these months. This part is posted unbeta'd due to the holidays. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] libitina and [livejournal.com profile] roaringmice for inside intel and spywork at Skate America. Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sarka for all the help with Czech history and language (not to mention the cool music).
Previously in Out Of Bounds: Known more for his jumps than his artistry, figure skater John Sheppard hires ex-skating champion and 'artiste' Rodney McKay to be his coach. Back in 1990, Radek and Rodney talk about Rodney's '86 Olympics.

Working on that Christmas scene for Out Of Bounds, a little thank you to the readers. And I had to explain Rodney's top hat somehow.

I've wrapped [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru's pressies though I've yet to decorate the tree. Yes, that's my job, no, he's only wants to hang tinsel which is a-okay with me. I'll have to disappear for a time (grocery shopping) while he wraps presentses.

In the meantime, you have to check out the incredible [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa fic written for me.

Title: One Piece At A Time
Author: Santa
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Rating: PG
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion
Spoilers: All four seasons.
Summary: If one more scientist reported to work with that vaguely manic gleam in his eye, and the phrase "workbench jig" under his breath, Rodney was going to have to ban visits to Sheppard's little playground.

Author's Note: For Icarus, who asked for John and airplanes. Title from Johnny Cash. Thank you so much to [personal profile] lunasky and [personal profile] sheafrotherdon for betas. Big extra special thanks to [personal profile] lunasky for hand-holding, inspiration, and beautiful manip!

( Sheppard was using the Tone of Extreme Patience. That usually came right before the eye tick. )

I love this story. It has aircraft, the author took the time to research how an airplane is built, gets the tools, the steps, then interweaves John and Rodney's slowly building relationship (did I mention that I adore clueless!Rodney?), has realistic action -- and wonderful, thoughtful observations about John Sheppard. Personally -- not that I'm biased or anything -- I think it's the best story in [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa. Whoever wrote it... wow. Thank you.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] lunasky, I love that photomanip. And I'm a photomanip snob.
