Does anyone know anything about FTP protocols?

I was trying to show a friend the process for updating a website and upload a corrected page at the Percyfest -- and I'm getting a login failure. It says "authentication failed."

I'm trying to reach and_love at Muse-Wanted, and so far haven't had any luck.

ETA: and_love contacted me to let me know that a hacker had been using my account, so she deleted my login and password. We put in a new password, et al.

Eep. And I'm changing all my passwords.

Do you have a firewall? Some FTP sites don't like my firewall and return that error message. You might want to play around with the settings or turn it off completely for that one upload.

I checked, and there's no firewall. Hmmm. Everyone's saying it's either a bad password or user name.

I believe that happens when either the username or the password is incorrect. Maybe you just made a typo *shrug*

It's not a typo in the password. But maybe there's something wrong with the user name....

Would you believe what happened was that it appears a hacker managed to get my login and password? So and_love deleted them until I contacted her, just in case.

authentication failed normally equals bad username or password.

Well the password is definitely right. I think I need to double-check the username, but I haven't been able to reach anyone to do so. *panics*

"FTP Protocols" is redundant because FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol" ^_^ Sorry. I couldn't help it.

Did you have the right IP address? What program were you using?

I know. I saw it and just didn't change it in my message - little time right now.

As it worked out a hacker had been using my account, so and_love had deleted removed my user name and password. She got back go me on Y!M and it's fixed now.
