Holy cow.

wildernessguru and his buddy, T. aka "The Puppy," are heading out to the woods for five days.

Their packs look like they're going for a month.

I was up until 4am last night bagging up the meals, but at every turn the boys went with the heavier item. Since I don't know how much T. eats, I had to do a bit of overkill, too.

"Yeah," says T., "I think we're gonna be throwing things into the woods, man."

Jesus. These guys are gonna hurt.

I only went for a weekend, but took enough to look after an entire squadron of people - I learned my lesson quite quickly so, next time, it's only the bare essentials for me!

And yes, they will hurt...

the first time my friends and I went camping, we had to make two trips in the boat to get everything to the island. We learned our lesson and the second time brought clean socks, underwear, and a sleeping bag. Not even PILLOWS.

No kidding! But some people never learn.

wildernessguru knows better! But he's never been able to get into ultralight backpacking. Ray Jardine or no Ray Jardine.

T., on the other hand, is a virtual backpack virgin. But.. as a personal fitness trainer, he might be all right.

Maybe better than The Guru.

Hee! I don't backpack (bad back, too old), but we do car-camp. HeadBoy packs enough stuff like we're doing the Normandy invasion and staying for a couple of months. And we're toting 2 kids and 2 dogs. Not an easy thing, my friend.

Yay on the 5 day mini-vaykay!
