Just got my transcript
Jul. 30th, 2004 11:18 pmSo I knew my grades.
I just got my transcript.
Wow. I've been on the Dean's list for every quarter. And down at the bottom now it says: "President's List."
Gosh I hope I can keep this up.
What exactly are these lists?

Date: 2004-07-31 10:45 am (UTC)I won't argue with the diligent part (though you might be able to insert "obsessive" with more accuracy there). But I went to school with two certified genius's, merit scholarship winners, etc. One was my best friend, Anna. She read the encyclopedia in spare moments because it was "so interesting" and didn't watch TV, "there are better things to do." She was completely unapologetic about her brilliance, and I admired her for it. Her talent was literature in particular, though she was interested in everything.
The other was a third-generation Russian kid who was doing ground-breaking mathematical theory in high school. He was in private tutoring for all the math classes, because he'd already learned high school and college math from his grandfather (in Russian) and was moving into uncharted territory.
*blushes* Okay, okay. I'll tell you. I was the other one they made a big fuss about, but not because of my grades. All my teachers were frustrated with irresponsibility with homework. They made a big deal because I was the big 'artistic talent.' I was a self-taught musician, a writer, but mostly an artist.
So the mathematician last I heard achieved an advanced degree at U of M and University of Washington, then bought a VW bus and headed out across country with his girlfriend.
The brilliant literature student went to Yale, found literature was not her calling, and is now receiving her doctorate of divinity at a small private Christian college.
The artist-type threw all her artwork away at 19 and because a Buddhist monastic.
You can see why she and I were friends. I always thought literature wouldn't be deep enough for her.
