Whoops. Locked out of the muse-wanted server again.

I don't get it. We have it so only my computer can touch those files. I haven't saved my password and log-in anywhere, and I've dumped cookies and temp files religiously.

[livejournal.com profile] and_love -? What's going on?

I'm starting to think this isn't something wrong on my end. The hacker must be getting his info somewhere else.

There might be a loop hole in the system that has nothing to do with you. Have you tried changing the users names? Or a new password system?

Are you using a dictionary word(s) for your password? Even if interspersed with numbers, many hackers have programs that will find passwords quickly if they are based on dictionary words. Are you using symbols and numbers in your password? Are you using the max number of characters for your password?

It could be the program that is protecting the server. Some (poorly designed)programs store the password in an unprotected file, so if the hacker knew what file stored the password, he could just look it up there, without actually 'hacking' anything.

Good luck figuring this out!

My passwords are transliterations of Tibetan words, so they look like gibberish. She thinks she knows what's going on, the tech people are helping her. But the server's been locking me out every two weeks.

I get locked out of m-w on a semi frequent basis too. It's not just you - I'm getting [livejournal.com profile] and_love to pick my passwords when they're changed at this point, just in case it IS at my end, but I doubt it now that I see you're having the same problem. [livejournal.com profile] and_love is FAR too sweet to properly lay into her webspace provider - I'm half inclined to do it myself. ::grin::

Yes. I've kind of given up on the whole situation. As it works out, I was wrong and my ISP's free webspace will handle my site. In fact, I had webspace just hanging out there, unused, so I've created a mirror Percyfest site.

[livejournal.com profile] and_love asked me to fund-raise for her, to put up on note in my journal. But that's not something I'm comfortable doing. I would feel sort of guilty to fund-raise for Harry Potter sites and not, oh, starving children in Calcutta.
