Stargate SG-1 bunnies

- Jack talks a reluctant Daniel into maneuvers in the park. Humour, PWP.

- Daniel slowly remembers a challenge Jack set for himself. Humour, PWP.

- That frightening Daniel-sex-change epic, where Daniel's still a guy, damn it, despite appearances. Angst, Drama, misunderstandings with aliens.

- The epic where the SGC decides to repay a favour to the alternate reality that saved earth. They modify the quantum mirror so it can go back in time. Since Jack and Daniel are likely dead in that reality, the two of them return to save the other earth. Only they get the wrong alternate reality. Ooo, it's waaay different. There was no Christianity, and as a result Hellenic culture has continued. Drama, straight Jack&Daniel are faced with not-so-straight Jack/Daniel. Drama, Humour.

- A retired General O'Neill still pesters the SGC, and truth about Jack/Daniel is staring everyone in the face. If they can put the pieces together.

- Jack tells Daniel about the real Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, and reveals - hypothetically of course - a lot of his personal history. Drama.

Harry Potter bunnies

- Snape Manor (of course)

- the next chapter of Reunion

- the Dungeons Percy/Niko

I think I've OD'd on HP. Three months later and I'm still looking at HP stories and feeling rather... full. On the other hand, it's startling how few good writers there are in the Stargate fandom compared to HP (sorry, Stargate folks, but it's true. HP is 30 times the size of the Stargate fandom).

I'd really like to see this one, and I'm not even in Stargate fandom.

These would be full-fledged stories if I'd had time to write them when the bunny hit. Of course the Hellenic one is the furthest from done, but it's has two things going for it: exploring the line between close friends and more, and exploring how Hellenic culture would look in the US. What would remain, what would change?

Stargate has a lower ratio of good stories to bad than any other fandom I've seen... in my opinion, anyway. I don't know why, except that a lot of people did get fed up with the fandom during the season four ship wars. Feel free to help turn things around. [g]

The frightening Daniel-sex-change epic sounds kinda fun.

I think that the producers decided to deal with the slash subtext (which I feel is caused by Michael Shanks being, oh not so straight and very attracted to Rick Anderson), by making sure there was a clear het not-so-'sub'text.

We have to talk [livejournal.com profile] melpemone into writing her Jack/Daniel angstfest. :)

The frightening Daniel-sex-change epic sounds kinda fun.

That one is really teasing me. The point is how to deal with a mostly-straight not-inclined-to-'go there' Jack O'Neill. And what happens when Daniel is turned back? Then there's Daniel's complete frustration and the societal mores for men and women, and what happens when Daniel is confronted with them.

Some of the producers and writers seem freaked out by it, but others, maybe not so much. (PDL comes to mind..*g*)

What I thought was really funny was that MS said that he and Rick would 'camp it up' a lot during filming (or at least, during rehearsals), and got a little worried that maybe they did it too much and that's where the slash came from. (Well, yeah, up to a point.) Not that it seems to bug him too much--as indicated by the outtakes in the Season 7 DVD, where he goofs around and plays with his nipples during the phone call scene with Jack in "Lost City". (I've downloaded the avi, but haven't watched it yet. ::slaps forehead::)

As far as I could tell, MS seems pretty damn straight, though.

The smart ones recognise that as an Art Director once told me (while shooting a really crappy Chevrolet commercial with Peggy Fleming): "I hate to say it as a creative, but advertising is advertising."

The producers have talked about the slash phenomenon? Where? *looks eager* Gosh I'm curious about their reactions.

What I thought was really funny was that MS said that he and Rick would 'camp it up' a lot during filming (or at least, during rehearsals), and got a little worried that maybe they did it too much and that's where the slash came from.

Oh, where and when did he say that? That really helps. I've been curious where the bleed through is from RL to the show, since there tends to be a little bleed-through when you play a character for a long time. The character becomes more and more like and idealized rendition of You.

[livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru wonders, "Why did they do that?" After I told him, he said, "That's it. They're both queer. No straight guy would do that. No way."

I dunno, I mean, actors.... When Fargo came out, they all started doing the Minnesota accents (Season one's loaded with Fargo moments). Then there were the Dr. Evil in-jokes. I can see them having a running queer joke, especially at the expense of the military.

As far as I could tell, MS seems pretty damn straight, though.

On the Season two DVD there's an interview with MS that's... jeeze. He melts into a puddle of goo when he talks about RDA (and doesn't when he talks about his other co-stars). His body language falls apart. Whether it's hero-worship or what-have-you, that was a blazing crush I saw. That doesn't mean you're gonna spot him at the nearest Vancouver gay bar. For a lot of guys the line is just blurry. It's not even a gay-bi-straight thing.

Frankly, actors have to preserve their Leading Man Status by not having gay rumours floating around. So it's probably more considerate not to speculate. I've never been much of a gossip. With RDA playing himself and MS creating a Daniel that's more and more like himself, the RL person is awfully close to the surface.

Not that it seems to bug him too much--as indicated by the outtakes in the Season 7 DVD, where he goofs around and plays with his nipples during the phone call scene with Jack in "Lost City". (I've downloaded the avi, but haven't watched it yet. ::slaps forehead::)

They have out-takes on the Season 7 DVD?! *runs off to buy*

I'm slowly catching up. I started watching (inconsistently) somewhere towards the end of Season 4, caught part of Season 5, then, believe it or not, got hooked during Season 6 of all things (largely due to a dearth of good scifi right about then). I was sooooo glad when Shanks came back. Now I've bought Seasons 1-3, and Santa's bringing me Season 4.

Because I'm watching it on network television, I'm seeing Season 7 right now, and won't see Season 8 until next year (unless I cave and buy the DVDs).

Awww, I'd love to see that Season 2 DVD. I understand what you mean now--yeah, I'd totally buy that he had a little crush on RDA. That sounds so cute.

And no, they don't have outtakes on the Season 7 DVD, as far as I know--it's just a behind the scenes thing. (bummer). I can't seem to find the download now, I'll have to try and download it again.

And Season 8 has been pretty darn slashy, so far in an old-married-couple kind of way, even though they only have a few scenes together. Really very adorable.

The producers have talked about the slash phenomenon? Where?

Ahhh, I can't remember exactly, it's in some of the DVD commentaries. Usually someone joking around. I'm quite sure they're all aware of it. It's been mentioned by CJ and MS during cons (CJ: You mean Jack and Daniel *aren't* doing it?).

Amazon.com. You can get them from a reseller for about 20-30 bucks (click the used button - there are plenty that are new but have been dumped on the resellers).

it's just a behind the scenes thing. (bummer). I can't seem to find the download now, I'll have to try and download it again.

Oh, I hope you can find it. That sounds... gosh, I want it. *whimper* It would be a public service. I know Kiji and [livejournal.com profile] melpemone want it, too, yes, they do.

It's been mentioned by CJ and MS during cons (CJ: You mean Jack and Daniel *aren't* doing it?).

Finally, someone has given me a reason to go to a con.

I ran some scenes by [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru, who has experience both sides of the fence. His determination:

Shanks - "Queer." Girlfriends? Two kids? He shakes his head. "That doesn't mean anything."

Rick Anderson - Straight. Tease. "He's just fucking with him."

Is that the final word? Hell no. But he's a good judge.

The observation about feeling OD'd on HP fills me with regret. But I don't have the right to even wish you felt otherwise. It's all still relatively new to me, of course.

Perhaps take a hiatus and then come back to Snape Manor?

I've been writing HP fanfic steadily since October of 2002, two to four fics a month generally.

I think I'll do more rec-lists, write for the [livejournal.com profile] hp_dungeons to play with my OCs, edit Fanning The Flames and the last part of Beg Me For It, those four-page drabbles (ha) that I wrote last September, post the stories around that currently are only on my website. Basically clean house and stay involved while I recover.

I just feel that the bunnies I have are sort of, hmmm, lacking in depth and bite. It's starting to feel too forced and I don't want to force it.

Oh, I can see why it's palled on you a bit. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. And I really don't grasp the creative process very well (when it comes to producing fiction, I mean), so as I said, I don't think I'm entitled to wish differently.

Most hobbies do eventually come to an end (or mutate). You might never "recover," and that wouldn't be a tragedy, either. You've already gifted this fandom with a large body of creative work.

Sex-change-smut? Ah, sure, what the heck. Bring it all on.

Because, as you have noticed, there hasn't been much good stuff lately.

I have, and I'm wondering about that. There are the ship wars, the ascension/descension of Daniel, Jack's promotion that has separated the two of them, and now the *ahem* distraction of Stargate: Atlantis... sigh.

Atlantis is very distracting. *g* But not that many Stargate writers are embracing Atlantis. A few, maybe.

While all the things you mention certainly have had some effect (although I'm thinking they might actually have *increased* the amount of fic being written) it's likely that the peak of fic-writing for the fandom has passed. The show's been around for a long time, and a lot of folks have moved on. And yet there's still new writers wandering in and that's all very good. *g*

I think the HP world is going to have a similar die-off once the last book (and movie) is complete. That's another 2-3 years away.

I love you AND your bunnies. :-) A retired General O'Neill still pesters the SGC, and truth about Jack/Daniel is staring everyone in the face. If they can put the pieces together. is my favourite.

I'm not quite done on HP. I think I have another couple years in me. But to prevent total burnout I've decided that I will write my angstfest as soon as I get the chance (which is starting to look like February), give myself some variety. After the next couple months I think I'll need the change... god, my to-do list for HP is utter insanity.

I'm not done writing HP. I'm just in a sort of burned out phase, and it feels like a deeper sort of burn out then the last three.

Sort of, oh, the stories coming to mind don't have a lot of meat to them. I don't wanna write crap just to keep writing HP.

I mean, I don't have to write well, that's something for the 10th draft, but there has to be something compelling at the core of each story. It's not there right now, not in HP stories. It could be I'm just tired, or it could be that I need more canon to chew. But that 'core' feeling, like I have something to say, it's there in SG-1.

Perhaps need to do the occasional HP story, but wait for new HP canon. Or maybe I just need to give myself time to recover; read a while.

All the more reason why you should rec them when you find them! Seriously, since you started talking about Jack/Daniel, I've been reading SG1 like crazy.

It's like when you're hungry for something, but you don't know what until someone walks by with a plate and it smells really good. Then >BAM< you know you are just dying for pork chops.

Have you read Loki's curse? (Which is slow, subtle, beautifully characterized and totally hot.)

SG-1 is more like the Lord of the Rings fandom. Small, intimate, with a few stand-out major writers.
